I borrowed one of these off a friend of mine who also had squirrel 'problems', I had been previously been using rat poison, with had inconsistent results. As I didn't want to continue with poison anyway & nothing else I tried seem to have any effect, I took up his offer & used his trap, he assured me it would work & he was bang on, initially it was not successful due to my bad location of the trap, but after re-location of the trap, closer to where they/it came in, within about a day or two, I heard something go snap in the loft-space & Mr squirrels, power cable, roof joist & box munching days were over. I am therefore considering buying my own trap to keep in the loft-space, just in case of further incursions by vermin. Oh & squirrels love chocolate (I was told),so for bait I cut-off half the chocolate covered soft toffee off a twix & stuck it right in the middle of the area that the bait is supposed to be. My friend told me I need to put it in something first as otherwise they will reach through the bars & grab it.... but my method worked on this squirrel , so try that. As for the quality of materials used in the product you will have to decide yourself , but the one I used appeared to be galvanised, so rust proof, also mr squirrels teeth did not seem to make any marks on this particular trap that I noticed, so If this product is constructed correctly & of the right material it is a 5 star product as the design is so good. I haven't caught a rat with it so can't really comment, other than to say, I cant see how the outcome would be any different than for squirrels.
