Anyone who has practiced yoga and meditation will immediately recognize methods presented in this book as pranayama (breathing) and meditation techniques. Shinzen Young explains that "The Zone" is simply a meditative state and goes on to describe seemingly superhuman performances by people when in this state. The methods are best practiced while performing repetitive activities such as running, walking, cycling, but can be applied to other activities as well.
The only shortcoming is the difficulty in applying this method to game day performance in non-repetitive sports such as tennis, football, baseball, etc. This gap may be filled by referring to the book "Body, Mind, Sport" which gives more precise techniques and going to your local yoga studio for instruction in the physical and mental aspects of yoga. But buy this first. Meditation in the Zone really gives you an insight into what can be achieved.
