Review

For a book on meditation, In Search of the Real Self is wonderfully edgy and uncompromising in parts - for example, in Dada Jyotirupananda's assessment of the qualities you should look for in a teacher, which certainly caused me to raise an eyebrow or two. But, in my view, that's perfect. Who needs another 'same old' book on meditation, after all? What we really need is fresh thinking, new insights, and new direction. Jyotirupananda gives us this, helps us rethink our craft, and, with fine learning and authorship, leads us to a new understanding of what meditation might really mean in our lives and the benefits we might reap from it. --Ross Heaven author of Love's Simple Truths

Meditation: In Search of The Real Self offers clear and persuasive encouragement to those beginning or preparing to begin the practice of meditation as a tool for the acquisition of self-knowledge. Dada Jyotirupananda presents a fresh, personal and well-informed approach to the practice of meditation that is sure to appeal to many. --Swami Abhayananda, author of History of Mysticism and The Supreme Self. www.swami-abhayananda.com

A wonderful introduction to the ancient philosophy of Tantra, full of gentle wisdom and humour. This book will enrich your life and guide you to a state of true well-being. --Steve Taylor, author of The Fall: the Insanity of the Ego in Human History and the Dawning of a New Era, http://www.steventaylor.talktalk.net/

Dada Jyotirupananda wrote a good book on the wisdom encapsulated in Yoga and its practices. He effectively conveys his message in simple words, written with characteristic yogic humility and modesty. It's my first recommendation to persons enquiring about Yoga.

5.0 out of 5 stars Meditation, Searching for the Real You, 10 May 2010
This review is from: Meditation: Searching for the Real You (Paperback)
This book is very accessible, with sound, easy-to-follow guidance. There is no impenetrable jargon to block your understanding. The relaxed, first-person style of the author makes for a more intimate relationship with his teachings. There are plenty of excellent stories to illustrate and make more easily understood each of the points the author is making.
Buy this book, it will change your perception of how you live and perhaps even change your life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Introduction to Meditation and Yoga Philosophy, 7 Oct 2010
By Roar Bjonnes - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Meditation: Searching for the Real You (Paperback)
Dada Jyotirupananda's book has achived something few books on yoga is able to achieve--a fine balance between introductory information for the novice as well as more in-depth knowledge for those already on the path. This book is not simply a meditation manual or how-to book on meditation, but it is also a book in which the reader is prepared for the path ahead. In the first chapter "First Steps Toward Spirituality," the author shares his own spiritual story and through it we learn that success in meditation does not always come easy or by itself; it requires discipline and perseverance. In other words, this is not a quick-fix, new age manual to meditation--the author's teachings comes from an authentic lineage of traditional teachings in Asthanga Yoga, or Tantra Yoga, as he likes to call it. We learn that daily practice will give us inner strength, depth of vision, and perhaps most of all, inner inspiration to continue on life's most rewarding journey, the search for our true Self.
The book is generous in its teachings, easy to read, but also contains depth of wisdom requiring contemplation and application to grasp its true secrets. Yoga is, after all, a practical and personal path! Hence it is a wonderful workbook for all spiritual seekers on the meditative journey. Meditation, the book, has chapters on yoga and the physical body, including yoga diet, fasting, as well as chapters on Tantra, the mind and yoga psychology, yoga ethics, as well as a chapter at the end about the practical aspects of meditation. Highly recommended!
