Book Description

Start and develop your own authentic meditation practice. Newly revised, updated and edited, Nov 2014.

A realistic approach to understanding and growing spiritually with an authentic daily meditation practice.

If you would like to learn more about meditation and how to actually start, develop and maintain a personal meditation practice this book is for you. David Carlyle draws on his personal experience and years of daily meditation to provide the reader a realistic approach to what is a simple, yet profound way to rekindle our spirituality, sense of integrity and our dignity.

There are lot's of meditation books available - so why is this book any different? Meditation For Beginners & Spiritual Skeptics is about incorporating meditation into your daily life as a way to discover who you really are. It is about much more than relaxing, working through stress or finding peace of mind. An authentic meditation practice helps us focus on our innate truths, integrity and dignity, allowing us to experience a fuller compassion and understanding of our place in the world. David Carlyle asks you to commit to not just sitting quiet for a few minutes each day, but to renew your life with a fuller understanding of who you want to be, and how to move in that direction.

The meditation techniques suggested here simple enough for anyone to learn and master. Learning how to meditate is not the issue, understanding how to approach meditation is. Without the proper understanding of the purpose and scope of meditating any meditation guide is going to fall short of the real experience and benefit. Whether you have an interest in Transcendental meditation, Buddhist meditation or Zen meditation, they all ask you to the same place, within. The process is simple, yet can be unrewarding when we don't allow our lives to change at the same time.

In Meditation For Beginners you will learn:

  • Chapter 1: Brief History of Meditation
  • Chapter 2: Religious Roots of Meditation
  • Chapter 3: Modern Schools of Meditation
  • Chapter 4: Common Methods Of Meditation
  • Chapter 5: Is Meditation Right For Me?
  • Chapter 6: Developing A Meditation Practice

5.0 out of 5 stars High on content! Easy to understand! 2 Oct. 2014

David does a great job describing meditation in this book. I have taken a beginner's meditation class before and I learned more from David's book. This book is a great read multiple times! The more you read this book the more you will have an understanding of what meditation is. You are getting a great vallue. Meditation is something learned over a period of time. Similar to when you were a teenager you "knew" things, but you didn't have a full grasp and comprehension until later in life. David clarifies a lot of myths in his book. For instance, to truly meditate you can't be out to "gain" something. Having that attitude is contrary to what meditation is and you will fail at meditating from the start.

David is quite honest in this book which I find quite refreshing. If you are interested in learning about meditation this book is for you. It is written in a manner that does not sell you on a type of religion or belief. This book is for non-religious folks as well! :)

5.0 out of 5 stars A very helpful introduction to meditation 16 July 2014
By Bradley Jones - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
I have been under a lot of stress lately and have been investigating the idea of meditation. I stumbled upon this book and it shone a light on what meditation entails. A lot of people get into meditation, thinking that it will be a cure for all which ails them. This is, more often than not, not the case at all. This books explains that meditation can help to create a calmness in mind, which leads to better decision making in all areas of one's life. It touches on the beginnings of mediation in the east, and its eventual adoption in more recent times in the western world, which is fascinating in itself.

Outlined in this book are a few of the various mediation techniques which anybody can begin with just a small window of time each day. I'm going to put the practices contained within this book into action and hopefully set myself on the way to a more peaceful existence.

5.0 out of 5 stars Packed full of information on Meditation. 5 Jun. 2014

This book is incredibly comprehensive! I've wanted to delve into the world of meditation for quite some time now and have researched it quite a bit online. However, I just wasn't very comfortable with jumping right into practicing meditation and frankly, wasn't even sure where to start.

After reading this book I have a much greater understanding of what meditation is, how to do it, and I really like that the author even included a chapter on how meditation is relevant in our society today--it makes the subject much more relatable.

I feel confident that through the practices in this book I can reach my meditation goals.

5.0 out of 5 stars This was a great introduction to meditation 31 May 2014

Even if you are not interested in learning to meditate, this book is highly recommended for it's wisdom about life in general. I become very frustrated with myself when I try to meditate, but this book has given me inspiration and has given me permission to be ok with where I am at in my practice. This book taught me that meditation is a journey and each day will be different--but just reading about it has already helped!
