Product Description

Medieval 2 is the latest and greatest game to be released in the best selling and award-winning Total War series. Set in the years 1080-1530 the most turbulent period in European history, the game combines a vast, deep-thinking turn-based strategy campaign with the most cinematic, epic and brutal real-time battles ever seen in the genre.

A vastly enhanced version of the Total War engine vividly portrays the pure bloodlust of Medieval warfare with massive battles of more than 10,000 troops splayed across new graphically rich environments. For the first time in the Total War series each troop is an individual, garbed with the rich heraldic colours and glinting arms and armour of the period.

On the battlefield they`ll survey their surroundings for threats and incoming opponents and react accordingly. When engaged they`ll string together a series of devastating moves as Medieval 2`s new combat animation brings the conflict to life like never before. Total War has never been so ferocious or realistic.

The Medieval 2 grand campaign will hand you the reins of one of an emerging faction as you set about sweeping throughout Europe, conquering all before you. Expand your borders and develop your lands for wealth and prosperity by building cities or swell your army by constructing vast castles to protect your land and keep your rivals quaking with fear.

Use Princesses for diplomatic gain, Priests to spread the influence of your religious beliefs and Merchants to fill your coffers for your war effort. All the time the Pope and the Papal States watch over the Christian world, assessing the strength of your faith and making demands to prove your loyalty. Do you cater to his whims and avoid excommunication or plot his downfall and rig the papal elections to place your own Pope in power?

  • Real-Time Battles On a Massive Scale
  • A legion of more

5.0 out of 5 stars Total Domination of the Strategy Game Arena 15 April 2012
By JH
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
The Total War Series continues to improve with Medieval 2 Total War (M2TW). I have played the Total War Series since the original Medieval: Total War (PC CD). I have loved all of them, and M2TW does not disappoint.

I play on all very difficult settings and I found diplomacy extremely challenging but not impossible. When you are weak no one wants to be your ally, but as you grow in power you can find friends even from your former adversaries. Stick with it and don't forget gifts are appreciated. The computer AI is not stupid. The AI is aggressive bringing the fight to you early and often. In battles the AI will attack at full sprint as soon as your missile troops attack if they don't have superior missile troops. The AI does attack too frequently without a general though. Many battles would have been lost or at least caused more significant casualties if they had a decent commander.

Basically, Total War has not changed dramatically, but the improvements continue to make it more and more fun to play.

Changes / Improvements since Rome: Total War - Barbarian Invasion Expansion Pack (PC CD):

*Cities Specialize as cities or castles

*New character types Priests, Merchants, Inquisitors, Heretics, and Witches.

*Princesses are also back from the original Medieval Total War. Princesses can act as Diplomats or ensnare the hearts of foreign generals and bring them too your side.

*Greatly improved siege warfare. City walls and especially castle walls defensives have improved. The higher levels of castles have multiple circuits.

Good game, but this version doesn not include any of the patches, so it needs to be patched to improve the poor enemy AI etc.

This is by far one of the best strategy games there is, the detail is brilliant and you can lose days in this game. I must agree with other reviewers about the amount of glitches however the fact that the game still manages to shine through this is impressive. The size of the game is nothing short of immense, so many different ways to play and plenty to keep you amaused, also buy the expansions which are also great and unfortunately come with their own set of glitches.

A must have for strategy fans
