Product Description

The University of Texas, Health Science Center

"...by far the best comprehensive treatment of mammalian physiology at the organ, cell and molecular level, on the market today." --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Review

"Clearly links the molecular and cellular biological foundations of physiology to organ-system physiology, as well as its aberrations that become disease. Designed to show 'expertise of a multi-author book with the consistency of a single pen' the editors sought Yale professors of physiology and then recast their manuscripts into uniform style to become a reliable resource for medical students. The excellent color illustrations can reduce the need for additional hand-outs.?

So it was in the middle of my fresher's alcoholic haze that I decided I'd better purchase a decent physiology text for the next 2 years of my course. Armed with book vouchers I simply dived into this book at the shop because the cover was pretty.
Why do I love this book so much? Not just the cover, but the rest of the illustrations are SO useful in understanding pathways & interactions which are covered in more traditional texts by a few paragraphs of block text.
The book is ideal for people who struggle with physiology - I've spent hours searching libraries and the internet for information sometimes, but it's always covered in B&B. Concepts are outlined at the beginning of a chapter and covered in increasing depth as the chapter progresses logically. It is impossible to get lost in this book - each new chapter covers a discreet topic.
A must for any medic! (It's getting me through first year no trouble at all)
Also comes with Student Consult access - internet site which has additional diagrams and information for every chapter which had to be left out of the book in the interest of brevity.
B&B is fantastic as you can read into each topic in ever increasing depth and be armed with the perfect foundations of knowledge to undertake further reading or simply do well in exams!

This is a fantastic book... the diagrams are amazing and well detailed!! It goes into significant depth about biochemical processes behind the general physiology!.... in fact i even use it for a bit of intro into biochemistry, before i dive into Stryer or Alberts or Devlin!

The signal transduction is covered very well.... although a lot of repetition but its good in a way as you don't have to read the entire book just to understand a basic point.

But the Neurophys isn't that detailed i would say and they could improve the Endocrine system and add a bit more on Blood!... but what is in this book is still amazing!!

This book is way better than Guytons!!.... which in my opinion is like story book!

Reading about membrane potentials is a joke form Guytons compared to Boron!

Great links to clinical practice
Overall this is a great textbook that successfully links the basics of physiology to clinical practice, a link that is often poorly explained to medical students. Read more

A useful but hefty tome
This textbook is both impressive in size and quality. It aims to cover the physiology at a cellular level as well as linking it to pathophysiology. Read more
