Excellent book! Great illustrations with good in depth descriptions! Good for revising mechanisms if drug action. Would highly recommend to pharmacy students!

I was pleasantly surprised by this publication. This is an excellent medical pharmacology overview and summary, not only for students, but also for medical practitioners who want to stay up to date. The layout of only two pages per subject can be very misleading in the sense that it is definitely not a "short" summary as these two page contain a fast amount of information. The coloured picture format is a very helpful aid for remembering and explains the different pathways brilliantly. An all round exceptional book, essential to have on the shelf.

When I saw this book in the uni library I thought it was the answer to my pharmacology dreams....the layout and diagrams are great but I found it just too complex.....there are pharmacology books out there that are much easier to understand. It's definitely worth having, but if you are just starting to learn the subject I'd advise starting with something more simple first.

I think this book is generally very good when learning the basics and I found it useful when studying pharmacology around 15 years ago (earlier edition). I was quite disappointed to find this latest edition almost identical after 15 years of drug changes and developments with some mistakes too. Might be better to just by an earlier edition for cheaper.

Great for refreshing your knowledge on the mode of action and adverse effects of drugs, but not if you're studying from scratch. There's definitely not enough detail and they dont tell you the differences between drugs in the same class. Perhaps better as light reading. Clear diagrams though, which I found quite helpful.

Pharmacology is one of those subjects at medical school that as a student you will either easily understand or you will struggle with throughout your time. For this reason many students including myself are always looking for a book that well portrays this area with ease to the student.

Although an at a glance title, the useful thing about this book is that someone with little/no knowledge could use this to gain a good understanding of the area, sufficient to hopefully give them a good boost towards what they need to know. From this you could then move onto more advanced texts such as Lecture Notes Medical Phramacology or a bigger textbook.

The disadvantage of this text is that some pages/sections are very heavy with text so not ideal for the more visual learners amongst us.

In conclusion if you are looking for a good starting point as well as revision resource for medical pharmacology then strongly consider this text.

So As I was starting a course studying medical pharmacology, I thought it would be a good idea to buy a few books on pharmacology, this book included. It's an excellent and compact book, with diagrams and many different useful ideas and has been really useful as it's much more portable than most other books I own as a quick reference guide on certain things.

In terms of content, it is structured well by making 2 page summaries on a certain body system/part with drugs that affect it and how they do. It's excellent for anyone who'd like to learn a little about pharmacology or needs a book to go for first ideas before heading into more depth on research on a pharmacological topic.
