I bought this book for my studies in Biomedical Sciences (Hons) and am very impressed. It is an excellent book for any individual who is interested or currently studying applied laboratory sciences or medical microbiology. It also covers related topics such as virology and mycology.

The book is structured in a way which is relatively easily to interpret; it covers all the types of infection and medical microbiology processing which you can expect to meet at University and in the clinical setting. It also includes case studies that one can relate to.

The book is split into chapters with each one covering a particular laboratory procedure, identification tests and flora and pathogens of the human body.

It serves as an excellent reference point for checking up on different microbes with stand out messages, highlighting definitions and cross referencing. A good textbook for any pathology/pathogenesis based microbiology course.

I'm a 3rd year Biomedical Scientist, currently doing a 3rd year project on MRSA. Not only is it extremely useful for my course modules (Microbiology/Medical Microbiology), it also gives a great insight on what is done in a real lab. The book gives all the theory we've learnt from our lectures a practical context; the variety of machines used, the processes, the differentiation between microbiological species, and much more!

The pictures are also great references; I can always refer back to the book to see what results I should expect from my experiments. Well worth it!

It contains the basic fundamental theory of working in the medical microbiology laboratory. Would recommend it more for undergraduates as it explains every aspect of testing performed routinely as well as some specialised testing. Found it extremely useful on my clinical placement in microbiology

I studied an IBMS accredited biomedical sciences degree. This series if books proved invaluable. Although I wouldn't recommend doing this, I did not attend lectures for one modules and obtained a B by learning from these books!
