Book Description

10 Sep 2009 0199551928 978-0199551927 2
Medical Law: Text, Cases, and Materials offers exactly what the title says - all of the explanation, commentary, and extracts from cases and key materials that students need to gain a thorough understanding of this complex topic. Key case extracts provide the legal context, facts, and background; extracts from materials, including from the most ground-breaking writers of today, provide differing ethical perspectives and outline current debates; and the author's insightful commentary ensures that readers understand the facts of the cases and can navigate the ethical landscape to form their own understanding of medical law.

Chapters cover all of the topics commonly found on medical law courses, including a separate chapter on mental health law. This new edition, thoroughly updated, includes:
- a new chapter on genetics, including coverage of confidentiality, pharmacogenetics and PGD, as well as direct-to-consumer genetic testing and gene therapy
- more on the ownership of bodies and body parts, and more on issues of medicalisation and access to trial data
- an expanded 'End of Life' chapter
- reference to key pieces of Scottish and Irish legislation.

Online Resource Centre
Online updates to the law are regularly provided to ensure that the book stays current after publication. New to this edition is an online, searchable glossary of medical and legal terms.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect book for medical law 6 Jun 2009
I study at Cardiff Law and used this book for basically all my revision for medical law. It was a God send! It made everything so easy and simple and gave excellent references from cases and journals so you could quote from academics really easily. I dont normally touch books this thick, but genuinely, it was excellent. Couldnt recommend it high enough!!

I am not doing Medical Law but I find the subject great to read about-the book cost like 3 so If its out of date (2010 is old in legal terms) I dont mind! I cannot or will not comment on the material as I am not studying the subject, It just passive interest!

Jackson covers all of the relevant areas with clarity and depth. I have used this book throughout my studies and use it as a starting point for many of the issues for discussion in medical law.
