Product Description

Written and edited by experts in medical interview skills, this book takes you through all the important aspects of Core Training (CT), Specialist Training (ST), Registrar (SpR) and Staff Grade/ Trust Grade interviews. Postgraduate medical interviews have become increasingly competitive and selection for medical training posts has become increasingly complex. This book gives you an insight into the marking schemes and explains a range of key interview techniques that you can apply to answer most interview questions. Through the detailed analysis of over 120 medical interview questions, techniques and NHS hot topics, it will give you an invaluable insight into a wide range of common medical interview topics such as: how to talk through your CV; how to answer questions on clinical governance, audit, research and teaching; how to deal with difficult ethical dilemmas on confidentiality and consent, how to handle a wide array of difficult colleagues, etc. The book also provides detailed summaries of numerous NHS issues such as the Darzi report, MMC and the Tooke report, Revalidation, the European Working Time Directive and many others. As well as formal medical interview stations, the book provides advice on how to handle role play, presentation, group discussion and other communication interview stations. Written specifically for the CT, ST, Registrar or Staff Grade/Trust grade interviews, this book will also be of valuable use to doctors preparing for consultant interviews.

This book is amazing in all respects. Easy to read, lots of explanations and tips, lots of examples of answers which make you think about how to present your own. And more importantly a vast array of questions on all the topics that you can ever be asked like leadership, research, audit, governance, and new stuff like Darzi or revalidation.

Had an interview last year where I struggled to explain governance and how I used it in my practice. At one of my Ophthalmology interviews I was even asked about ISTCs and struggled. I wish I'd read this book before because it really opened my eyes about all these topics and I would have performed a lot better.

I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone who wants to get into an training post or any post for that matter.

A fantastic book 10 Dec 2008
Format:Paperback
I have rarely seen such a detailed and interesting book on interviews. Covers absolutely everything you need to know for postgraduate interviews. The sections on ethics, confidentiality and competences are particuarly enlightening and, for once, I am glad to find a book which does not shy away from giving answers to some of the most difficult interview questions like the "main weakness" question or how to deal with difficult colleagues scenarios in an effective yet sensitive manner. The explanations are thorough yet concise and it is a definite "must read" for all applicants to postgraduate interviews.

This book is a real winner and it THE BOOK you never knew about!!!
Have just gone through CMT ST1 recruitment,I also underwent GP recruitment in 2009.

CMT first: one of my ethical scenario came straight from the book about an aggressive patient. But that is not the trick!!! The really good thing about this book is it gives you the tools to combat a lot of the ethical scenario with easy mnemonics. Practicing some of the question with my brother, he told me when I was not using the followed pattern which really helped!!!! THE ENDING I GOT OFFERED CMT ST1

GP it really helped with the written paper and I got offered a post in that as well. I am not joking when I say this book is excellent. Read it about twice and then with a friend and I am sure you will be on the right track!!

Good Luck Everybody
