Like the author, I am a medic with an interest in William Shakespeare. Dr Brine is trying to fill the famous gap of the Lost Years in W.S's life by suggesting he went off to get medical experience. Undoubtedly there are a number of interesting medical comments in Shakespeare's writings but I find it hard to justify anything more than good general knowledge. After all, there was not a lot of medicine to know, especially psychiatry, yet he got a lot in. However, he got it wrong if he thought dropping poison in a man's ear would enter his throat, unless of course he had a perforated eardrum.
But it is an interesting book to ponder over, and I would say - Go For It.
