Product Description

Book Description

Medical Ethics and Law can be tedious, boring and difficult to understand. We created this book for both students and qualified doctors to prove that it doesn’t have to be.

With contributions from medical students and experienced lecturers we promise no big words, just simple language presented in a fresh and entertaining way to help make learning easy.

We’ve enlisted the help of course tutors from medical schools around the UK to ensure we cover the entire core curriculum you’ll need to pass your exams.

But it’s not just about scoring top marks, we hope this book will help you understand how ethics and law shape the care patients receive - and make you a better doctor in the process.

PASS GUARANTEED! We’re so confident that you’ll pass medical school with our help that we’ll give you your money back if you don’t!

Part of the cover price also helps the work of MSF.

3.0 out of 5 stars A good guide, but doesn't provide enough understanding..., 3 Dec 2007
This review is from: Medical Ethics and Law: Surviving on the Wards and Passing Exams (Trauma Medical School Survival Guide Series) (Paperback)
I currently have to use this book as part of my medical course, and whilst it is adequate, I feel that it only provides a narrow view to medical ethics. It focuses primarily upon the more dramatic perspective of ethics ("abortion", "euthanasia" etc.), and thus seems to miss some of the more fundamental questions and points which are intrinsic to health care. I would have liked to have seen more attention to developing strong ethical justification skills based upon moral reflection and philosophical thinking rather than simply relating issues/points to bioethical principles. The other problem is that the book seems more orientated towards making jokes, which is great in doses, but sometimes it becomes annoying, and almost makes a mockery of the subject (E.g. Midway through the book there's a massive chunk of text focussed upon exploding aliens with buttons...no really!).

In short, this is probably a good book if you just want a guide which will get you through UK medical school exams, and it is entertaining at points. However, I personally believe that there are better texts available which promote a deeper understanding.
