Review

'Most lawyers would admit that they are ill at ease in the company of the media. For those lawyers, this book is essential. It gives all the background anybody could possibly want in understanding and handling today's media, be it print media, radio or television.' Roderick Dadak, in the Solicitors Journal

Legal Week

If you want to be a gladiator in the media circus rather than someone's lunch, this book is for you.

The London Advocate

To avoid looking like an idiot [on national TV], reading this book is essential.'

Product Description

"Trial by media" is now a common allegation and increasingly lawyers are expected to advocate their clients' cases in the court of public opinion as well as in the traditional courtroom. Written especially for lawyers, this text aims to answer the growing need to understand: how the media operates, how a client's case should be presented, the ethical dilemmas involved and how to avoid the inevitable pitfalls. With this guidance lawyers should be able to make the media work for them - whether it's to help their clients or get their firm talked about or both. The 2nd edition of this guide has been fully revised, incorporating practical new case studies, chapters on litigation support and crisis and issues management, and updated regulations in the appendix.

From the Author

This is a substantially updated and expanded of my earlier book. It's a fast, hopefully enjoyable read, packed with case histories, anecdotes and advice from legal and media professionals and even a few jokes. It contains all the professional rules and guidelines relating to codes of practice, contempt of court and sub judice but also lots of practical examples to help anyone dealing with the media in a legal or professional services contact, whether marketing their firm or chambers, advocating their clients; cases or managing a reputational crisis. I believe it is still the only book which meets this need.
