***In-app purchase of $4.99 gives you Chromecast support (Google Play Services required), casting to Apple TV, Roku, WebOS and UPnP/DLNA enabled devices, access to Dropbox, support for themes and an ad-free interface.***

It's been almost a year since Avia's Chromecast release. Chromecast has been a success for Avia, to say the least. To add to the sweetness, we're now supporting casting to Apple TV, Roku and WebOS devices along with an updated UI, icons and themes. Avia 7.2 also offers overall stability improvements. Here are the features of 7.2:

Features:
- Updated user interface with simpler navigation and smoother response
- New icons throughout the app
- Casting to Apple TV
- Casting to Roku devices (need to install Avia for Roku)
- Casting to WebOS enabled TVs
- Improved stability and support for the latest Google Chromecast software
- Full playback control from your phone or tablet
- Music album artwork and artist images displayed on your TV

And of course, Avia still allows you to: Share your photos, videos and music on these devices: Chromecast / Roku / Apple TV /WebOS TV's / Xbox One / Google TV / PC / Mac

Play and manage media stored on your Android device, in the cloud or from these devices: Facebook / Dropbox / Google+ Photos (Picasa) / Network Attached Storage (NAS) / Windows Media Player (WMP) / XBMC / Serviio / Plex / Subsonic / PC / Mac / Other Android Devices

Finally, here are a few pieces of advice to get the most out of Avia:
- To cast to Roku devices, please install the Avia for Roku channel that will appear on your Roku screen.
- Make sure your Android device and device you want to cast to, e.g. Chromecast, are using the same Wi-Fi network.
- When using Avia to access media from other devices, they must have UPnP/DLNA serving enabled.
- When casting from Avia, files MUST be compatible with the receiving device. Many devices have fewer compatible codecs than a home computer.
- Please review your media formats with the specifications of your devices before attempting to cast. (Example: Chromecast is not compatible with .AVI files.) Please see the video conversion guide at aviatheapp.com/support.
If you have questions, comments or feedback, please check out our support page at http://aviatheapp.com/support/

If the Chromecast icon is still missing, troubleshoot suggestions are below :
- Reboot WiFi router (optional: change WiFi channel), reset factory settings on Chromecast, rename Chromecast and re-install Avia.

1 star for selling me Chromecast access by in-app purchase, then updating my avia app to 7.2.

Then "keeping quiet" about the fact that Google (of hypocritical "do no evil" fame) suddenly decided that Chrome-casting requires Google Play services installed, and Amazon, equally as sociopathic, with the "bottom line" more important to them than Customer Friendly treatment, BLOCK us Kindle Fire purchasers (called MUGS from now on) from being able to install it.

Rival company I know, and I know virtually no borderline illegal profit-chasing business will tolerate rivals, but fuxake...

So for all "you lot" out there reading this and wondering why you also have no chrome-cast app in the Avia toolbar top right, here is how to get it back (or get it at all if like me you paid for it and never saw it in the first place).

http://aviatheapp.com/support#toggle-id-26

Make sure you uninstall the previous version of Avia entirely as they warn.

I followed the instructions and it works, I rebooted the Kindle Fire (old 1 or 2 generation, no HD or HDX) before attempting to click the installed Avia 7.0 version icon.

I am now watching Hendrix on a 40 inch TV.

At last.

The instructions do not say what happens if you try the icon before rebooting, but judging by this whole pigs-ear of a malarkey, much of it not Avia's fault, I would not tempt fate and click it to "see what happens".

Note the zip file found in the above URL is not for redistribution and is ONLY for Kindle Fire users.

Hope esteemed Amazon UK members find the info of use, at least in the reduction of half an hour looking around for a solution.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended 8 Jan. 2013

Simple to use and the talking is in sync. Doesn't need to be connected to wireless to work and you can port all media from your laptop or pc and not have to worry about file type. So far I've played mp4 and avi files no problem. And it's free. What more do you need?

2.0 out of 5 stars Free Media player 13 Jan. 2013

Looks to do the task well, but after downloading it, the app looked a little too complex, with lots of 'bells and whistes' that I did not require. I just wanted a video player. I was also not sure what was going on in the background, so it was removed from my Kindle fire shortly afterwards. It may suit someone more confident in using a multiuse application.

4.0 out of 5 stars Chromecast on the Kindle? 22 Mar. 2014
Verified Purchase
As a free app, it is nothing more than a media player, and a pretty ugly on to boot. I have not had a chance to test how well it copes with different file formats as I was more interested in its ability to connect to my new Chromecast. Of course, this feature requires an in app purchase (£1.89), which was to be expected but is not clear from the app's description.

Does it work? Yes, but only from the app itself. This means you will be able to cast downloaded media, but don't expect any way to cast Prime Instant Video, for example. The smart money is on Amazon releasing its own version of Chromecast, which is a shame as Chromecast works really well on standard Android and iOS tablets, and support on Kindle from more apps than just Netflix would be very welcome.

3.0 out of 5 stars Bit of a let-down 11 May 2014

This app is of limited use and although its a freeapp you need to purchase the upgrade before it does anything. It only lets you cast content already stored on your kindle but unable to use to cast videos from YouTube or movies from netflix.
