Medela Swing Electric Breastpump with Calma

Express milk quietly and discreetly: the Swing Electric Breastpump combines a multi-award-winning design with the latest technology. The electric breastpump is very quiet and therefore represents the ideal solution for regular and discreet breast pumping.

Swing is the multi-award-winning electric breastpump for mothers who need a breastpump for everyday use. Whether you work part time, want to have an evening out, play sports or just want to go shopping, the Swing electric breastpump is the ideal solution for mothers who don't want to spend too much time for pumping.

There are various issues which can make breastfeeding directly on the breast difficult, such as latch-on problems, breast infections or sore nipples. The electric breastpump Swing is also suited to such problems as it helps you still provide your baby with breastmilk at this difficult time. You have time to heal and enjoy the benefits of a short break from breastfeeding.

Calma is the ideal alternative to breastfeeding for mothers who want to give their babies breastmilk

With Calma, babies do not have to change their natural feeding behaviour. Whether you breastfeed or use Calma--the milk only flows when the baby applies vacuum. Breastfeeding is always best for your baby, but sometimes it is not possible to breastfeed naturally. Calma provides a solution to this.

  • Enables babies to maintain their natural feeding behaviour learned on the breast
  • Babies can drink, breathe and pause regularly
  • Supports an easy transition from the breast to the teat and back
  • One size is sufficient for the entire breastfeeding period, just as in nature
  • The unique feeding solution for your baby--it is recommended that you introduce a teat when breastfeeding is established

Invented by Medela--2-Phase Expression Technology

Medela has invented 2-Phase Expression which is the only research--based breast pump technology that mimics a baby’s natural nursing rhythm. Similar to a nursing baby, 2-Phase breastpumps mimic a baby's natural sucking behaviour.

First, a fast pumping rhythm to stimulate the milk ejection reflex and to start the milk flowing. This phase is named stimulation. Then, a slower pumping rhythm to express milk gently and efficiently. This phase is named expression.

Through intensive and pioneering work, Medela has converted the baby's intuitive knowledge into technological know-how. The result is 2-Phase Expression - the new standard for unsurpassed naturalness, comfort and efficiency in breastpumps.

  • Phase 1 Stimulation Phase--just like a baby who initially suckles rapidly; stimulates the let-down reflex
  • Phase 2 Expression Phase--pump automatically moves to a slower speed as the milk begins to flow

  • Choose the right breastshield for you

Every mother needs her individual breastshield size. This is important to have an efficient pumping session without pain and to completely empty the breast in a shorter period of time. Therefore Medela offers 5 different sizes of its PersonalFit breastshields. You can read more about selecting the right size for you here.

    About Medela

All Medela products that come into direct contact with breastmilk are, and always have been, made from BPA-free plastic. Breastmilk is best for the baby and the baby's natural sucking rhythm is best for the mother. In intensive pioneer work, Medela has converted the baby's intuitive knowledge into technological know-how.

4.0 out of 5 stars As as says on the tin ...... 22 Sep 2007
    By LJP
Like many mothers who want the best for their baby but don't have the time or ability to sit down all day breast feeding on demand, the idea of the breast pump seems ideal.

I did use a manual breast pump with my first daughter many years ago and found that I got myself into a sticky, irritated mess! It was beacuse of this I was in two minds whether to buy a pump at all, never mind spend the best part of £100 to purchase one.

Having read professional reviews, I took a leap of faith and bought this model. I must say that while it may be considered a little expensive and it is a little tricky to operate one handed (while feeding my baby with the other breast,) I expressed some three ounces of milk in around 20 minutes.

I was then able to take my baby out shopping for some essentials without having to give her formula milk or listen to her scream the shop down before we returned home.

The pump is easy to assemble, clean and operate and will be a huge benefit when I return to work in the future.

Simply, I wish I'd have bought one earlier!

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good for its size 8 Jun 2008

I originally rented the Medela Symphony, the heavy duty one from the hospital. It was excellent in so many ways, except for the price. I mostly breastfeed, but like to have the option, so I decided to go for this one. Overall, it is a great little pump. It takes a while to pump and isn't as powerful as the Symphony, but that's to be expected. I did try the battery option and it goes through them very fast. This is really best if you are out and about, away from an electrical outlet. The only thing I just cannot understand about this pump is the little tube that goes into the bottle is triangular while the bottle insert is circular. This is minor, but a design flaw. The tube does fall out from time to time, which is annoying more than anything. Overall I am happy with this, but if I planned on pumping more often or exclusively I would spend the money on the Symphony because it is really great.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect, thoroughly recommended... 10 May 2009
    Amazon Verified Purchase
My wife bought this in the hope that it would be easier to use than the AVENT manual pump she had tried. My goodness, what a difference. She can now express a whole boob comfortably and quickly. I doubt I'll be allowed to include the video review!
It's a tad expensive but definately worth it and has meant we have not had to revert to using 'emergency' SMA as far more is being successfully expressed.
I'd go as far to say that if you're breastfeeding your baby you are going to need one of these.
