I really struggled with breastfeeding when I first started. My baby would not stay latched on and it was excruciatingly painful. After four weeks I plucked up the courage to go to a breastfeeding clinic (highly recommended!) where I was given one of these nipple shields. My baby instantly latched on and fed for a whole feed without coming off. I have now successfully breastfed my baby for six months using them! ANd I'm still going....amazing considering I never thought I'd make it to 6 weeks!
Some people will tell you that you must not use them for a prolonged period, however the lactation consultant said that this a myth. Apparently when they were first invented they were quite stiff and this lead to less efficient feeding. She said this is no longer an issue with the silicone that is used.
I would advise buying more than one set. There's nothing more frustrating than dropping your only sterilized one when your baby is crying for a feed!

I was born with inverted nipples - probably more than you needed to know but if you're reading this review then you are at least thinking about breast feeding. My daughter was unable to latch & I was recommend these nipple shields by the midwife & once we put a little milk in it (to give her the idea) she latched immediately & we never looked back. Ended up feeding her using them for almost two years, so they can be used long term. Just always remember to pack one when you go away (we ended up keeping one in a box in the car) or you can both end up in some discomfort. A wonderful product

Many midwives and healthcare professionals don't recommend the use of nipple shields to aid breastfeeding but one very kind midwife suggested I try them when my newborn son could not latch on and without them I would never have been able to feed him. It takes a long time to get a full feed from them and is hard work for the baby (but that does mean they have a good snooze afterwards!). I used all 3 sizes to train my baby's suckling action and after a few weeks of perseverance we no longer need to use them. Not just for sore nipples! Give them a go if you're struggling.
