OK to prevent leaks 20 Jan 2009
I bought these collection shells as I had tried some of the Boots ones without any luck as they made a complete mess and spilt milk through the vent holes round the top. The Medela ones were an improvement as they are completely enclosed and the silicone is very comfortable against your skin. However, if like me, you leak quite a lot of milk while breast feeding on the other side then they are still a bit messy! The hole where your nipple goes is quite a large diameter and doesn't leave much room for milk collection. I would say only about 1oz is safe before it starts spilling out. So, OK if you are sitting still and watching carefuly what you are doing but don't try leaving the shell in your bra and walking around or it will leak out.

I bought these milk shells after being recommended them by my sister. I leak a lot of milk especially when feeding and the breast pads were just not good enough so I tried out these milk shells. You can collect the milk save it in a bottle in the fridge where it can be kept for a few days. They are much kinder to your nipples than a damp breast pad. The only disadvantage to these shells are that you have to be very careful when bending down low to pick something up as there is a little pouring notch or hole on the edge and if you bend down too far, ie without bending your knees, the milk will run out the top and make an even greater mess than a wet breast pad. I wear them at night but would only recommend it if you sleep on your back or carefully on your side.

If you're expecting and planning to breast-feed, buy these now. All that leaking (and precious..)milk in the early days of feeding can be collected and frozen for the nights out you are looking forward to! So much more usable than the older rigid shells, these stay in place by suction due to the flexible silicon back. Just watch that you get the little hole uppermost so you don't lose the milk out of the bottom, and don't bend over suddenly while wearing them! Buy some milk storage bags too. It may well be worth buying two sets of these shells if you want to have spares while one set is in your sterilising solution (although most solutions do the job in an hour anyway..) PS Persevere with breastfeeding, it can be tough while your nipples get used to it but then it's a doddle - and so special for you and your baby :) :)

Excellent product!
These are great, wish I'd known about them at the beginning of breastfeeding! No more soaked bras or multiple dirty muslins to mop up the leakage from the non-feeding boob. Read more

Lifesavers
These stay on comfortably and meant that I didn't drench my clothes every time I fed my daughter. They somehow don't seem to look completely obvious under clothes either. Read more

Spilt milk & funny shaped boobs.
When wearing these, DO NOT BEND DOWN! Otherwise you'll soak yourself with milk and it'll go all over the floor. Read more
