Great value on the Classics label,

A friend introduced me to the PC version of MoH. I was hooked pretty much straight away, so I snapped up the XBox version when I saw it as one of the Classics range. OK, so compared to current standards, the graphics aren't necessarily all that, but they still hold their own and the gameplay is great: the hairs come up on the back of your neck as you wait in that landing craft ready to hit the Normandy beaches to a hail of machine-gun and artillery fire. From there, you progress on a mixture of solitary and squad missions that require a mixture of silent-spookery and all-out hot-lead action. I like the selection of weapons and their different characteristics: for example a pistol not only inflicts less damage than a rifle, but it is also less accurate - you just can't beat that sniper rifle for sheer sneakiness though... So would I buy this for £40? Probably not when you compare it to some of the slicker games for the XBox that are available now. Do I regret buying this as a Classics label? Absolutely not: great gameplay, great value. Just looking forward to the next MoH instalment when it comes out in Winter 2003!

Great First Player Shoot 'em Up, Terrible Multi-Player.,
By A Customer
This review is from: Medal of Honor: Frontline (Xbox) (Video Game)
I purchased this game after seeing just one level. It looked absolutely amazing. As soon as I got on to the first level I was glued to the screen for hours. The graphics are good, the story line is superb, but why are we an US soldier? Another dissappointment is if you try to shoot an ememy at close range, you always seem to miss even if the cross-hairs are in the middle of their forshead and they kill you rather quickly. Other than that the game is engrossing. Now to the multi-player option. Just don't try it. It is awful. I have had one go at it and will never go back. In the 1 player mode the movement of the ememies is very smooth and detailed. Not in multi-player mode. Your opponents look as though they are on skateboards or ice. Their legs don't move, if they jump the movements is very staggered and not smooth at all. Also, with only an all against all option for multi-player (no king of the hill, co-oprative, etc) and only 4 players max, unlike Halo, this falls short of any basic chance of anyone using this. Well, anyone who has Halo or Time-Splitters. Even with my hatred of the multi-player option, this game is still of top quality. It is tough enough to keep you playing for weeks and you know you want to be able to get gold on each of the hard levels ;-) I would have given this game 5 stars, but for the multi-player. It is a definite worth buying title, especially if you like first person shoot 'em ups.

Great fun, but not amazing,

I played this on a friends pc and loved it, and was not disappointed when i bought if for my xbox. The graphics are really nice, with lots of fine detail and there's a really nice soundtrack in the vein of band of brothers to go with it. The weapons are ok although there's not much variation, although there are 14 different ones but i guess thats a real representation of the war, there's an obvious difference between say a sniper rifle and a machine gun, but the general feel is of similarity - i remember the joy of finding the super shotgun, then the plasma gun then the rocket launcher then the rail gun on quake2. That said, its really addictive. I'm a FPS junkie, and this was a real fix. A different game to Halo, but in terms of quality, not in the same league. You get much less for your money, there's 19 levels spread over 6 missions (quake2 - 30 much bigger levels over 3 missions), but considering there's a couple that take just a few minutes (one running the length of a train, one shooting down a mine shaft), i felt a bit agrieved - average of the other levels is probably 20-30 minutes. And my final whinge - why oh why oh why do game makers still think getting 95% through a 40 minute level, only to die and have to start again from scratch, 3 or 4 times, is fun? Yup, no autosave - i'd much rather autosave and choose to re-do the level at a later stage. Still, i sound negative, easy to pick out the faults, generally a good game, and a recommended buy.
