Single Player Campaign:
I thought that the single player experience in Medal of Honor is a solid one. The graphics are impressive, the gameplay meets and in some cases exceeds the type of gameplay found in Call of Duty, having both very intense and tactical situations. Having said this, it does have some draw backs. The multiple characters you play with in the missions feel very clinical and underdeveloped. At no point does the game try to make the characters likeable or give them any kind of personality, the same applies to the AI you play with although they do seem to feature some kind of personality. The story line is almost non existant as well. As far as I could make out it was basically an operation in Afghanistan that goes bad half way through, that is pretty much it.
Online Multiplayer:
I actually enjoyed the multiplayer more than the single player. Again it was a solid effort on Dice's part. It features various game modes that you would expect to find in an online FPS including Team DM, Domination and Sabotage. The gameplay is always intense and, for a period of time, does get you hooked in wanting to play more of it. Unfortunately this does not have the same longevity that perhaps recent COD games may have. This is due to limited weapons, maps and to some extent game modes. It does have a certain appeal to it though as it is similar to COD, but not COD. I only say this because personally I have grown bored of the COD franchise for the time being.
The Verdict:
This is by no means a poor game as I have spent a decent amount of time playing the various different aspects of the game and have had a lot of fun playing it. The reason I have given it 3 stars is mainly because it doesn't bring anything new to the table that hasn't already been seen before. I get the impression that the developers have played it safe when creating this game in order to avoid the possibility of creating something rubbish that often comes when trying to create a game that is different. I recommend that fans of FPS's who are interested in this game wait until it has gone down in price to around £20-£25. If a detailed and engaging story is a must have feature for you I would stay away from this title.
