5.0 out of 5 stars Edgy literary gem from both established authors and fresh talent!, 20 Oct 2011
By
This review is from: Mechanics' Institute Review: Issue 8 (Paperback)
Having been a fan of MIR for a number of years, I had eagerly awaited their annual gem of an offering. This eclectic collection of short stories played with my heart like a devilish prankster, tempting me forth from one edgy imaginative tale to another. Highlights of the journey were John Lucas's, 'Jessica's Lullaby', Tim Graves's, 'Bright fire of morning' and the great Chris Adrian's, 'Stab'. A personal favorite of mine was 'Jessica's Lullaby', from which it is quickly apparent that Lucas truly does have a way with words. I was drawn deep into the vile depths of this gritty urban nightmare and spat out feeling violated and moved in equal measures. I would recommend The Mechanics Institute Review 8 to anyone in need of some super hot Tabasco sauce on their literary lunch.
