"Good coverage of syllabus, user friendly text with plenty of worked examples and student exercises"
Course Leader, Wales

Product Description

In this book John Bird and Carl Ross introduce mechanical principles and technology through examples and applications - enabling students to develop a sound understanding of the principles needed by professional engineers and technicians. No previous background in engineering is assumed and theoretical concepts are supported by over 600 problems and worked examples.

This completely new text is designed to match a wide range of pre-degree courses, and provide an accessible introduction for undergraduates with no previous background in engineering studies.

A student-friendly introduction to core engineering topics which does not assume any background in engineering studies

A brand new text matched to the latest syllabus requirements

Includes over 600 problems and 400 worked examples

I have used this book in my teaching and believe it to be an ideal first year book for every course from post 16+ technology courses to first year engineering degrees . The written style is very clear and easy to follow. Prof Dr. Carl Ross has worked for years in this area and this show a clear practical approach to the problems which the book takes you through step-by-step. An essential buy for all engineering, Marine technology or product design students who want an easy to follow text based on problems. This has been the most important book throughout my engineering foundation year at university. There are plenty of examples to practice from and much of the relavent topics were there. Well explained and went perfectly with the lectures that were given. Although it was never included in our reading list, it was a million times better than the recommended ones and cheaper! Topics covered in the 1st year undergraduate are also included, so I know this book will be with me for a while!
