I brought this for my two and a half year old son. I was pleasantly supprised by its size when it came, i thought it might be smaller than it was (The tractor is approx 12" long when assembled). The pieces are just right for small hands but not small enough to be of any danger.
Granted some of the assembling can be a bit tricky but that just gives Daddy something to do ;-)
The instructions clearly show the parts required for each stage and this alone is stimulating for the child to find the correct amount of parts.
We've had this for nearly 6 months now it is still a big hit and I'm looking to buy some more for his 3rd birthday, although the range seems a little limited.
It is very robust and have had no problems even though my sons regularly tries to ride on the tractor once built.
Would highly reccomend if you are a 'hands on' parent/grand parent but it is not something you can just leave them to build on their own as they would find it difficult and probably loose interest (until they are closer to 3-4).
Personally I think it is a great way to bond with my son and teach him some valuable practical skills.
