I do and I had some old meccano when i was young, might have been my dads, my fingers used to get sore and rust coloured.
But, you know what the 1950's instructions were easy to follow and the stuff was strong, you could build a bulldozer that would bull doze, you could build a crane that would lift stuff.
My son is growing up and this xmas i thought I would get him a meccano kit, to relive what I did.
Bought this kit.
Built it the day after xmas, you know what? its crap, seriously, some parts are held together with little black 'things' which just do not hold together, they are like straight pegs, the thing just falls apart, similar problems with the gearbox as other users, if you bolt up the box to the motor it seizes, won't turn until you loosen the screws, so much they fall out.
I would go so far as to say this is best returned, it is not really fit for purpose, meccano should be ashamed to have a name of this toy.
I am an engineer so have no problem following instructions etc but these are not the easiest, the parts are low standard and too much plastic, there are threaded plastic parts which would not last long, the threads would be stripped in no time.
The axle on the back wheels is useless there is no obvious method of turning the wheels on the axle! apart from small back things which are supposed to locate in the hubs, once again the instructions are difficult to follow, its hard to distinguish the parts you need to fit from the photos, drawings would be better with more text description.
If you are contemplating buying this set to relive your youth with your kids, think again, try ebay for some old stuff.
This is to me like meccano disappeared then some chinese business bloke bought the name and remade a toy!
