Pete Rock is one of hip hop's golden five producers (others: Dr.Dre,Marley Marl,DJ Premier,RZA) who have one time or another been regarded as the best in the business. Before Premo and Dre, he was the man. This is his opus with the superb CL Smooth (where is he now?) doing most of the vocals. 'T.R.O.Y.' is one of thr greatest rap songs ever and defined Pete Rock's sound:horns blaring and thumping bass. MCs CL Smooth rips it all over the album and Grand Puba excels as guest on the De La Soul type vibed 'Skins'. 'For Pete's Sake' is the tune that really gets juices flowing and gets the otherwise mute Pete to contribute a blazing verse. 1991-92 was an era where talent mattered (not the marketing department)...and no one mattered more than Pete Rock.
