Product Description

Synopsis

Mean Mode Median revolves around a brother and sister who at times seem intimately close, but are also see are in fierce competition. They share similar talents - an ability to read and influence others. But they apply their talents in different ways: ways which are intrinsically opposed. And each is fated to suffer the consequences of their actions. Their family, and those whose lives they touch, are caught up in a chain of events manipulated by the pair that lead to unexpected and potentially tragic consequences. Cutting insights into personality, power and humanity draw the reader along, tempting and teasing until the plot unfolds and the reader's view expands with startling clarity. It is the kind of book that you look back on, remember, and savour the resonances of; that you think about long after you have put it down.

5.0 out of 5 stars A dark, wry treat 27 April 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Imagine a modern King Lear, with a dollop of Jeremy Kyle and a dark, knowing take on family life. This story from Aliya Whiteley has long been unavailable; fans old and new will be delighted to see it back as an affordable ebook.

Readers of her other work will expect prose of understated precsion shot through with flights of extraordinary fantasy - and they won't be disappointed here.

Aliya Whiteley's work defies easy genre categorisation - and in today's publishing world of pre-packaged and pre-digested brands, that can't be a bad thing. Read something original today instead - read Mean Mode Median.

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny and engaging 26 April 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Aliya Whiteley found her voice with this tale of a dysfunctional family and bizarre sibling rivalry. Mean Mode Median's the first long form outing for her trademark black humour and spiky characters, all portrayed with an assured literary voice. Fans of Fay Weldon and Jonathan Coe will find much to admire here. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dark, Twisted and Clever 9 Dec 2005
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
Although the writing style is completely different, this book has the feel of Ian Bank's "The Wasp Factory". It has a dark brooding ness to it, while you are compelled to read on. At times, the reader is made to laugh at situations that perhaps one shouldn't in the everyday while the characters are placed in a very recognisable reality.

Nice twists, clever plot, a great short read!
