I have only had this machine for one day but my initial impressions are very positive.

Yesterday I tested its performance back to back for a few hours with my 1 year old Ecoair DD122FW Simple (a Desiccant machine) in our unheated laundry room filled with wet laundry on airers. The ambient temperature of the room ranged from 13.5C to 18.5C (I have a humidstat with thermometer on wall) over the test period.

I couldn't believe that over the test period the new Meaco extracted 920ml of water while the DD122FW managed just 505ml. The DD122FW was in low fan mode (drawing about 335 watts) and the Meaco was on low fan mode (drawing 240 watts - tested with energy meter plug). I've done the maths and in terms of litres of water extracted per watt of energy used, the new Meaco was at least 150% more energy efficient than the desiccant unit. I say "at least" because the Meaco spent a significant part of its running time in "defrost mode" drawing only 28 watts. I suspect in reality it may have been close to 200% more energy efficient.

Based on my usage rate the £100 extra in purchase cost of the Meaco over the DD122FW should be recouped in under a year.

I bought the new Meaco to save energy when drying laundry as, while it does a good job a drying, I'm conscious my DD122FW consumes a lot of power due to the heat created which is great if you want heat a room. From now on I will use the DD122FW as a low powered fan heater when I need the heat. The way I look at it is if you can benefit from all the heat it produces, it effectively dehumidifies for free.

Personally I think all dehumidifiers sold in UK should be rated on litres/KwH when running in a 18C/60%RH environment. That is the figure that most buyers really want to know (or at least should want to know!).

Excellent machine. It is being expected to control around 250 sq metres ground floor and it is performing well. The air is better and the slight mustiness there has been is as good as gone already after just one week. Also it really does warm the rooms which is a real bonus.

Well built; well styled and with easy to read buttons and easy operation.

I studied a lot of machines and read a lot of reviews and I am very grateful for those reviews as they have steered me away from problems of poor build quality; inefficient operation as well as poor performance as this machine does it all well.

Yes, it is does make noise - as any such fan device will - but if you locate it away from sleeping areas it will be fine. I have put it in our hallway and leave the doors to the rooms open as much as possible to allow good airflow.

Although I have not had previous experience with de-humidifiers as such, I can tell I have chosen well which is again thanks to the many reviews

This works a treat! Our house is sooooo much warmer, drier since putting this into use.
Online instruction manual leaves a bit to be desired.
Not the quietest of appliances but I think you will find they are all pretty much the same in terms of noise.
At night it might pay you to relocate out of the bedroom however for me I can sleep through most things so not an issue for me

I spent quite a lot of time researching which dehumidifier was going to be the best for our household and this seemed to always come out on top. A colleague also recommended this and I certainly aren't disappointed and it is worth spending the extra.
We live in an old single storey stone scotish cottage, single glazed sash windows with no damp proofing. I noticed part of the house was starting to smell very musty and damp, our wardrobes also were smelling musty and the condensation on our windows was an absolute nightmare every day so I had to invest in something to try and shift the moisture. Not only was this delivered on a Sunday within two days of ordering which was excellent it is brilliant.
We followed the instructions (which are pretty basic) and switched it on full blast. The humidity in our house read 78 on the display but after two full days on it read 60, it's removed approx 3 litres of water and the air is certainly much clearer and most importantly the condensation is gone!
One thing to note is that dehumidifer does not blow out warm air as some others have suggested. I know this because I contacted the manufacturer to ask why ours wasn't and I was told it will only ever blow out air that is approx 2degrees warmer than the room temp at that time. I suppose if you have a lovely warm house already you might feel the benefit more than me as our house is pretty cold.
One very small point is that I would of like to have seen on the water tank a marker/guide to let you know how many litres you are throwing away. It's pretty easy to guess when the tank holds 6L it's just a small thing I would like to see.
My boyfriend is a tough cookie to win around when it comes to gadgets in the home but he can't deny the condensation and mustiness has all but gone and I'm sure the longer I leave it on the bigger improvement we will see.
