5.0 out of 5 stars A twist on the story of Goldilocks 1 Feb 2011
By Parents in Touch TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Hardcover
Mummy Bear made porridge for breakfast but it was too hot to eat, so the three bears went for a walk in the park. On the facing pages, another story is told in gentle sepia illustrations - I will leave you to guess the parallel story and its conclusion! But whatever you do, don't miss the detail in the pictures - for example, who is climbing out of the chimney? Anthony Browne is just outstanding and I was thrilled to review a new book by him - I have loved his books since reading them with my own children, and they would go back to them over and over again, finding new twists in the pictures every time. A thoughtful interpretation and another winner!

By Celia B
Format:Hardcover
Like all of Anthony Browne's work, the illustrations are fantastic with a touch of surrealism. Look for "secrets" in each picture to find the meaning of the story.

We are all familiar with the story of The three bears but Mr Browne manages to bring some personality in each character in this particular version. Instead of taking the well known story for granted, we explore a little bit about Goldilocks' home life, how she came about the three bears' house and what became of her when she fled. The story is told from the first person narrative where Baby bear is the narrator.

A very simple but thought provoking retelling of a traditional story.

5.0 out of 5 stars GOLDEN: Goldilocks Retold 6 Dec 2011
Format:Paperback
Anthony Browne's retelling of Goldilocks is a real treat. On one side of the book, Goldilocks' story is told solely by pictures and without the aid of colour, on the other side of the book is the story from the perspective of the three bears. Here there are words and colour, making a lovely contrast to the other side of the story.

As with all Anthony Browne books, the illustrations are fantastic with many hidden details which my daughter (2) seems to notice almost at once, but which I have to go hunting for!
