Electro-pop meets country (ish),

This review is from: Me & Home James (MP3 Download)
If the title of this review sounds like a jam and mustard sandwich, don't let it put you off- this album is a treat. The band has drifted far enough away from their electronic roots to make it work, while still maintaining a firm hand on the synthesizer. While the beauty of the album is the journey it takes you on; there are some stand out tracks. The xylophone has well and truly been traded in for a bale of hay in "The Redrock Mountain", great fast country rock. "The Woman in the Window" is an ethereal track with delicate lyrics that swish back and forth. The chemistry between the two vocalists is tangible during the harmonies in "These were the things...", which seamlessly blends into "Sailors", an oldie but a goodie and a track which will satisfy the die hard Morton V fans. The female lead's ability to make the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end comes through as the album nears to a close in "I'm Gonna Stand by You", shades of Emiliana Torrini in that respect. A talent echoed in the bands previous album in tracks like Sequin Smile. Superb album. Already excited to hear their next offering....
