It doesn't matter what kind of music you make. You've got to have soul. That's what everybody really wants whether they consciously know it or not. It's that indescribable spirit that lights up a record and brings it to life. It's that unnamable feeling that listeners crave for decades. It's exactly what beats at the heart of Jay Sean's anxiously awaited fourth ... Read more in Amazon's Jay Sean Store

Product Description

BBC Review

When a debut album has nearly a dozen and a half tracks, you know the folks behind it are feeling confident. In this case, Jay Sean and producer Rishi Rich are justified. Me Against Myself is of major league significance.

Sean grew up in a middle-class Sikh family and devoted his teens to punk rap. Disillusioned, he dropped out and went to med school but was eventually seduced back into making music. The single "Eyes On You" is a solid slice ofR&B and its recent chart success is deserved. But, in the context of this album, it's a conservative release that one assumes is intended to build a broad fan base.

The title track "Me Against Myself" is the one to watch out for if EMI find the courage to release it. With honesty and self-awareness - more The Streets than Craig David - Sean's singerand rapperpersonae go into battle. Both bruising and amusing, it's a marker that tells you precisely where he's at. The next chapter in this odyssey is a tantalising prospect that is potentially way off the radar screen.

With influences that enter from all angles, any Asian tag totally misses the point. This is an album by gifted people with a vision beyond boundaries and a simple devotion to music. Sean, for sure, is still finding himself and enjoying all sides of the urban scene. The next step will take the courage of real convictions, but there's a glittering prize up for grabs. --Antony Hatfield

The emergence of R&B singer Jay Sean looks set to redefine the UK's urban music rulebook. As the UK's first Asian crossover superstar, Sean has already tasted chart success with the slick anthem Dance With You (Nachna Tere Naal) and its Top 10 follow up 'Eyes On You'. But what makes Jay Sean such an exciting musical proposition is that as a UK born and bred artist his unique appeal is that he fuses 'Desi' rhythms with a credible R&B sensibility to produce a thoroughly authentic sound.
With the previous single the highly-contagious 'Eyes On You' having dominating radio nationally and crashing into the charts at number 6 and the new single 'Stolen' set to follow the same path Jay Sean's eagerly-awaited debut album 'Me Against Myself' has garnered positive critical anticipation from both the streets and the broadsheets in equal measure.
The diversity of the album proves that Jay Sean although an avowed entertainer is so much bigger than the 'Asian R&B' pigeonhole lazy commentators will unsuccessfully attempt to force him into. Songs such as 'One Night', 'On & On' and the single 'Stolen' deal with the universal issues of love, loss and regret to which everybody can relate.

5.0 out of 5 stars At Last 8 Nov 2004
Format:Audio CD
Ive been waiting for this album for a long time and it dosent disapoint. This album is a great mix of R&B, Hip Hop and Asian styles and it works, of course theres the singles so far 'Dance With You' which launched Jay Sean to the world, 'Eyes On You' and 'Stolen' but my favourite track is one of the more asian tracks 'Meri Jaan' featuring Juggy D.
The production by Rishi Rich is slick and varied and the album has a great flow to it, although tracks 16 and 17 are hidden tracks (track 15 is 16 minutes long ;-)

5.0 out of 5 stars Long awaited, but worth the wait! 16 Nov 2004
Format:Audio CD
Yep, the long awaited album by british talent Jay Sean, "Me Against Myself" has finally arrived on our shelves, and its not a disappointment; his refreshing hip hop come RnB style, fused with bhangra sounds great. His released songs have done well in the charts, with the most recent "Stolen" reaching number 4.
I'd definitely recommend buying this album if you haven't already, its a great album.
My best songs include, Stolen, Eyes on you, Don't rush, Meri Jaan, Holding on, and man's world, but they are all good, with great beats.
All in all, i think if your a fan of RnB and bhangra, and of Jay Sean, you'll love the album, give it a few listens before you make up your mind!
Oh yeh, and listen out for the hidden songs on track 15, which is actually almost 16 minutes long!

5.0 out of 5 stars "East Meets West" 22 Oct 2004
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
What happens when east meets west?
After all the hype and pressure over the world's first asian R&bB star, Jay Sean doesn't dissapoint. Infact 'Me Against Myself' is one of the must buy albums of 2004. Constantly dubbed 'The asian Craig David', Jay really proves his own worth
Teaming up with the man who got him into the music industry & executive producer Rishi Rich, the pair provide a winning formula. Jay Sean has already a top 10 single (Eyes On You) to his credit & with the brillaint single "Stolen" destined for chart success and with chart ready tracks like "On And On", "Don't Rush", One Minute" & the list goes on, this album is a sure winner.
The asian twist is just brilliant and Jay has really introduced a new dimension to R&B.
Watch out for Jay Sean!!!!
