5.0 out of 5 stars Thorough 20 May 2009
By Michelle L. Beckham - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
As an ESL teacher I would rate this very thorough and accurate. Gives the phrase and the meaning to the phrase. The index in the back also helps you locate all phrases using the key words in the phrase.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing. 21 April 2013
By suzanne bennett - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Little history of usage of phrases; Not organized by subject; inadequate index, difficult to use for research unless you already know the idiom.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hasn't let me down yet... 24 Mar 2013
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com

I am a Middle School teacher and I use this Idioms Dictionary as a reference for my students daily. The definitions are clear and succinct and it is so easy find what you are looking for. It's nice that it works as well for a twelve or thirteen year-old as it does for a well-educated adult.

4.0 out of 5 stars A worthwhile purchase 11 April 2013
By DR HOWARD - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
The key word index is especially helpful. I like that the definitions/explanations give a lot of examples. While it has a large collection of idioms, it did not have some idioms that I looked up. Overall, I would recommend it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointment compared to the hard copy. 7 Mar 2013
By Don M. Moore - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I type in the idiom I am seeking---"On the order of," for example. I get over 300 possibilities to look through, each one having the word "order" in it. I look through 102 groups of 3 selections and one group with 2. None of them has my idiom. So I have wasted many minutes doing a completely useless search. Finally I find the idiom in the Miriam Websters Dictionary for Advanced Learners. This book may have every idiom anyone could ever want to define, but if it can't be found without some kind of miracle, it is a liability, not an asset. If you want to waste your money on this purchase so you can waste your time, go for it!
