Product Description

Product Description

Seven-time champion jockey Tony McCoy is a phenomenon. In April 2002 he rode more winners in a season than anyone else in history, shattering the record set by the great Sir Gordon Richards fifty-five years earlier. Just four months later he rode his 1,700th winner to beat Richard Dunwoody's career record and become the greatest jump jockey in history. McCoy - A.P. to his army of fans - is in a class of his own in a sport where he risks serious injury every time he participates. In the 2000/2001 season he told no one but his physio that his ankle was broken in two places. He just strapped it up and carried on winning. Together with trainer Martin Pipe, he has changed the face of jump racing sustained on little more than sweet tea and a Jaffa cake, such is the battle to keep his weight unnaturally low. He performs feats of staggering heroism, on a diet that nutritionists would suggest is barely enough for him to stand up. In his autobiography, Tony McCoy tells the story of how the school-hating, horse-loving kid from Northern Ireland fought his way to the top, through triumph, tragedy, laughter and sacrifice.

This review is from: McCoy: The Autobiography (Hardcover)
Good honest account of his life so far. Fascinating look into the life of argueably the best jump jockey of all time. Beginning from when he was a young boy, who regular missed school to work with horses, to finally achieving the amazing feat of being Sir Gordon Richards record for race wins. You feel the pain that he puts his body through every day & cannot help but admire his dedication to be the best. If you are interested in horse racing, you simply must read this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Tony McCoy, 9 April 2008

I totally disagree with the 1 star someone has given it. Valiramix* fell fatally after clipping heels with another horse- an accident that occurs regularly in horse racing. McCoy explains all the pain he felt after the fall and how much he felt for the horse. And other to that- he describes his whole life so far in great detail and enthusiasm. If like horse racing and interested in jockeys- this is a must for you!

5.0 out of 5 stars McCOY - The genius in his own words, 16 April 2010

I've just finished reading this autobiography and my only complaint is that it is too short and ends in 2002 when A.P beat Sir Gordon Richards record of the most wins in a season. McCoy has had such an eventful life there is loads more to pack in - the fist jock to hit 3000 winners, 14 consequetive championships, the 2010 Grand National win at the 15th attempt and maybe, even a well deserved BBC Sports Personality Award!!! Because, lets face, A.P. McCoy is simply the greatest sportsman Britain has ever produced. The bio is the story of a driven man but it also has warmness, honesty and a humility which is quiet touching. I've read other bio's in a similar vain - Mick Fitzgerald (Better Than Sex), Timmy Murphy (Riding the Storm), Paul Nichols (Lucky Break) and I honestly believe this is the best.
