4.0 out of 5 stars Only a few problems..., 4 April 2004

I have installed McAfee Internet Security 6 on my computer twice.
There were a few problems with the first intall.

There were times when the program (MIS6), would not allow me
to email attachments but, McAfee now has a patch and instructions
on how to elimnate the problem.

However...If you have had any trial versions of McAfee installed
on your computer - you must make sure that ALL traces of it be removed
COMPLETELY !!, before installing the downloaded or
boxed copy of the software. That means removing all traces from
the registry, program folder, and if using Windows XP, from the
document and settings folder. I REPEAT...ALL PREVIOUS TRACES OF
THE SOFTWARE MUST BE REMOVED!!

I now have McAfee Internet 6 installed on my computer, with all
settings - just the way I want them, and now the program is
running flawlessly. GOOD LUCK!

2.0 out of 5 stars McAfee renewal reminders, 27 July 2004
By
P. Cowley (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: McAfee Internet Security 6.0 (CD-ROM)
I bought last year's version of this software. It installed easily and works reasonably well, though with the occasional go slow as it enters some kind of internal fugue state when a directory contains some large files that it decides to scan. Updates have been painless and efficient.
What really seriously irritates me is that for the past month it intermittently pops up a window reminding me to renew my subscription. These notes started 2 months before the renewal date and since they now appear every few minutes and interrupt typing or data entry it is a major inconvenience. The support site says nothing can be done other than renew early - no thank you - I'm for a different product next time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant protection, 7 Feb 2004

I upgraded from norton internet security 2002 and have had no problems with this suite so far. Everything is easy to use and works perfectly.

The virus scan works pretty much like any other and has caught virus's before i've even finished downloading them. It also has a world virus map where you can "Get a real-time, bird's eye view of where the latest virus's are infecting computers world wide"

The firewall has excellent controls and hasn't given me any problems with games once i gave them full internet access. It let's you view the active applications' activity and what IP addresses and ports they are connected to. Also, you can trace attacks with a visual maps to view the location of potential attackers.

The privacy service is also excellent, detecting spyware and controlling the access of internet applications.

Finally, the spamkiller service. I don't know why it's had so many bad reviews since i've had no problems with it, it's never blocked a single e-mail that i wanted and chatches almost all of the spam e-mail i get and moves it to the blocked mail box, leaving my regular e-mail in my inbox. Perhaps i downloaded a patch to fix it in one of the auto-updates?

If you have problems getting games to work online with mcafee make sure you have full internet access enabled for it in the personal firewall AND in the privacy service. For some reason both of them control what programs can access the internet. If you continue to have trouble with games then just disable the privace service when u play (you will still be protected by the firewall) and re-enable it when you're finished.

I highly recommend you buy this software
