Biography by Alex Henderson

Combining a Philadelphia soul sound with a strong appreciation of Marvin Gaye, Maze featuring Frankie Beverly was among the top R&B acts of the late '70s and '80s. The distinctive Maze and its charismatic lead singer, founder, producer, and songwriter Beverly didn't have many pop hits, but they were extremely popular among soul and urban ... this album is the first to bring the unique sound of what maze became famous for.. yet there a few nods to others on hear if you listen carefully. happy feelins reminds me of a smooth marvin gaye rendition, and why not it was marvin that got them their record contract. color blind has that sly and the family stone thankyou/dont call me nigger, whitey, vibe all through it, and even a little cuban jazz thrown in on while im alone. but the unmistakable voice and sublety of frankie beverly on look at california and so on make this a must to start off any groove enthusiasts introduction to an underated gem in the music industry...sit back, relax and enjoy

Maze were one of best soul R&B bands of the eighties, Still sound tight and smooth today. I doubt any band could match Maze since. Anyone?

This is how you make an album - Point,Blank, Period. 1 Oct 2006
By M. Spencer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
When I listen to Maze I literally go to another place. This music is so emotionally uplifting its like healing to the ears, and these brothers can play with the best of them. Where Ron Isley voice soars Frankie Beverly's sooths - and I love the fact that he writes all these great songs and plays rhythm guitar with such elegance. Bands like Maze will never be forgotten as long as I'm living. This is what real music is all about becauses there are so many different elements of music on this masterpiece and they excel on all of them. With each song flowing into the next it's d*mn near impossible to skip a track. My favorites - all of them - but really four song on this album should have been mega-hits "Happy Feelin's","Lady Of Magic You", and "Look At California" for an example. This is why they have such a solid fan base (which is mostly african-americans for some reason) but anyway this is a must have. I've got to go because I'm feeling the urge to give this masterpiece another listen.

Frankie Beverly & Maze - Greatest Musical Achievement 15 Jan 2007

I first heard this album in the fall of 1977. I immediately fell in love with it. While I still own it on vinyl, I have searched years to find this in a CD format. The entire album comes highly recommended for some good soulful, listening. Here are my favorite picks and why I have selected them. The very sensual "Lady of Magic" and "While I'm Alone" are to be unmatched. The wanting and longing that Frankie Beverly so evidently expresses on these two powerhouses can bring you to your knees. I am especially taken by the uptempo groove "YOU" because once again this man is speaking directly to the love of his life, which seems to be his only desire and focus in life. "Happy Feelings" is just that. In the air and everywhere, the feel good feeling is infectious! "Look At California"...Aahh now there's a song which implies California dreamin and Frankie's description of the breathtaking beauty of the mountains and sunshine in picture frame fashion, makes me wish I was there to experience it all with him. Absolutely, positively no artist can put it down like Frankie Beverly & Maze.

Huge Frankie Beverly&Maze Fan.I could listen to there Music all day/all night. the singing&Instrumentation is smooth."look at California" was the Jam.Happy Feelin's" is too Cold.these Brothers are very Underrated.they should be given more Props than they have.Frankie Beverly is a Great Musical Talent.they are the Only Musical Act that I know that they ain't had a Hit in 20 years&I bet Cash Money they will pack a house in a new york minute.there Music hits me so hard that they are One of those Acts where I Be going down the street singing there songs&Feeling so Good.it's a Shame the Brothers can't get no Love, but they Bring It Live&folks like myself never forget. we be playing pity pat,Uno,Bingo,Black jack&other Card games with there Soulful jams on in the Background.

Amazing Maze 18 May 2001
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
By far the best of all Maze CDs. A must for avid Maze fans. Why this is an import, I do not know. While trying to replace all my Maze albums with CDs, this one was a must. I was lucky enough to grab this one from a record store years back. Did not realize how hard of a CD this was to get at the time. A lot of the songs on this CD has a latin flava to it along with it's jazzy soulful sound (quiet storm).
