Book Description

2 Dec 2010
Arguably the Mazda MX-5 was single-handedly responsible for the revival of the sports car market, sparking off a new era of convertible fun, and examples of this popular roadster are now plentiful and affordable on the second-hand market. This practical guide provides expert advice on how to breath new life into a used and perhaps tired example of this modern-day classic. From preventative maintenance, to the renewal of worn components and details of known problems and how to fix them, the clearly written, comprehensively illustrated text provides all the information required to enjoy an MX-5 on a budget.

Ibought the official Haynes workshop manual a few months ago. It's pages are recycled and the content is sometimes a tad cryptic. OK, it has what you need to know but they say a picture paints a thousand words.....

....which is where this manual (still Haynes) comes into it's own. It covers only the major serviceable areas but gives you so much more in the visual content. I'm not a trained mechanic so appreciate the images to keep you on the right track.

If I had to buy one of the manuals I'd pick this one. It doesn't cover absolutely everything but the really important stuff it does really well. BUY IT NOW!

5.0 out of 5 stars MX5 Restoration 27 Nov 2011
Format:Hardcover
I bought a 1997 MX5 recently, and wanted some basic help for working on it. This book so far fits the bill perfectly. It discusses such things as replacing the soft top, dealing with rust, and avoiding certain cars with corrosion. Once again amazing service and value from Amazon!

5.0 out of 5 stars Mazda MX 5 Renovation manual 30 Oct 2011
Format:Hardcover
For anyone who wishes to do any improvements to an MX5 this is the perfect companion. Clear photos, unlike many other books on the subject, and a concise step by step text, referring to this book will give you confidence to attempt many tasks. Read through what will be required then make a decision whether to attempt or not, you can use this book in many ways. I would reccommend heartily.

5.0 out of 5 stars MX5 Renovation Manual 23 April 2012
Format:Hardcover
I have numerous Haynes manuals for different cars I have had in the past.
This manual is much better for the DIY mechanic as it shows clear photographs of the jobs you are most likely to undertake. It does not show you how to strip an engine or gearbox completely - but I would not do that, I would buy a secondhand replacement.
It is obviuosly written by an enthusiast who knows the weaknesses of MX5's.
I can highly recommend it for the home mechanic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mx5 PROJECT 3 Nov 2011
Format:Hardcover
I'VE BOUGHT AN OLD Mx5 IN FAIR CONDITION AS A HOBBY. I BOUGHT THE RENOVATION BOOK FROM YOU WHICH HAS TO BE THE MOST IDEAL TEACHING AID I COULD HAVE OBTAINED. EXPLANATIONS AND PICTURES ARE SUPERB AND SO EASY TO UNDERSTAND. I DON'T REQUIRE ANY MORE INFORMATION. JOHN

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, not technical enough 2 Aug 2014
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
Disappointing: I bought this on the strength of the reviews her, specifically to help me remove the front nose cone/bumper on my 2.5 FL, but information was sketchy at best and the whole book seems to be more relevant to owners of the Mk1. Also, the book has pointless sections on how to buy an MX5 and fit gaudy upgrades. This is not really a technical workshop manual and is too lightweight for serious restorers.

An entertaining read. A bit lightweight in content but ok. alongside a proper manual. Ideal for somebody not particularly mechanically minded.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not comprehensive enough
While detailing some jobs way beyond average DIY skills, there's disappointingly little discussion of choices, such as re tyres, soft tops, exhausts or interiors, seats, and so on. Read more
