This book claims to be the first history of the RNLI but ignores 2 0f its own publisations namely "Riders of the Storm"(2002) and Hidden Depths(2010)
The book concentrates mainly on rescues from 8 areas around the UK and Ireland. The stories are dramatic when it is noted the RNLI has saved 139,000(approx)lives since its foundation in 1824 and now operating from 230 stations. The RNLI continues to operate as a voluntary organisation subsisting on donations and legacies.
Excellent photographs and an easily read text but the absence of a bibliography is a basic error.
