Book Description

1 Jan 1988
This book was released with two titles - Mayday! is the UK version and The Mediterranean Caper is the USA version.

Major Dirk Pitt picked up the frantic distress call as he cruised his lumbering amphibious plane over the islands of the Aegean. Brady Air Force base was under fire, its entire force of jets destroyed on the ground ...by just one First World War bi-plane! A psychotic ex-Nazi, a bloodthirsty Greek strongman and a beautiful double agent set Pitt on the trail of the warped mastermind behind a devastating sabotage plot. And on that trail, danger and death are never far behind ...

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing 10 Dec 2010
By tonyw
Format:Kindle Edition
If you have read books by this author before reading this one you will be so disappointed. Clive Cussler tries too hard to make this book appealing by using sexual references which add nothing to the story or the atmosphere he is trying to create.
This is the first book by this author that I have contemplated not reading through to the end. Thank goodness he has produced better quality books.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Early Dirk Pitt Adventure 14 July 2011
Format:Paperback
Clive Cussler produces a pretty good action adventure, sure, not as sophisticated as later efforts like Vixen 03 and Pacific Vortex (and quite short for a Cussler book) but still, there is an exotic location, plenty of cameraderie between Pitt and Giordino, gloriously exaggerated villain and a storyline that makes you want to find out what the villain is up to. Particularly worth a visit if you only know Pitt from the rather watered-down books of the 2000s.
