Description

Best known for her 1990s solo work on 4AD and stints performing with the likes of John Mellencamp and Iggy Pop, multi-instrumentalist/vocalist Lisa Germano began a new chapter in her remarkably varied career with 2006's IN THE MAYBE WORLD,her debut on Young God Records, the label founded by Michael Gira (Swans/the Angels of Light). On these 12 tracks, Germano creates a delicate, dreamy atmosphere that envelops her bittersweet melodies, as exemplified by the spare "Too Much Space", the lilting "Golden Cities", and the appropriately winsome "In the Land of Fairies". These tunes drift in and out like transmissions from a slightly foreboding fantasy world, making for a fascinating album that defiantly avoids almost all modern pop trappings.

Maybe one of the most underrated and unjustly overlooked musicians of the last decade.

This album is full of beautiful piano chords, gentle instrumentations, melodic phrases. Nobody does honesty about emotional pain with more courage and serenity than Lisa.

Elegiac tunes cascade, bringing you to the brink of being overwhelmed with misery only to then pull back into mercy and grace. Tonal changes as subtle and majestic as an angel spreading its wings. Her voice is of someone who's been hurt but refuses to do the same. Defiant, humane, I adore this woman.

couldnt agree more, this hurts so bad you can hardly bare it but at the same time it's soothingly warm and hopeful and sweet.. red thread is propbably
one of the best songs i've ever heard..
