Some albums are perfectly understated; resting not on their laurels, production values or the additional musicians that contribute to them, but the gorgeous songwriting of their creator. Some albums are simple in their beauty; stating the obvious in their lyrics but doing so with an inspired and poetic flare. Some albums are masterpieces to behold, but not many albums are like Broken Twin’s debut album, the aptly titled May.

Copenhagen based solo musician Majke Voss Romme performs under the pseudonym and has done so since 2012, when she regrouped following the hiatus of her band Glass Arena. Her debut single “Sun Has Gone” was released in 2013 and is included here; acting as a modest centre-piece for an album that’s reflected in the track’s careful, melancholy piano.

This is just stunning. I don't know how you've found yourself coming here to this page, but if it's with a view to buying this album, then do.

The music is beautiful, haunting, sad, uplifting. The words are profound and a little bit disturbing in terms of what Majke might have been through (if they are as autobiographical as they sound/she says) but there is such emotion here and you cannot be but moved by it all.

My summer has been spent listening to May every day, and whilst it is dark, it is so beautiful that this counteracts the sadness.

If you want to hear a real, special talent, listen to this and you won't be disappointed. So refreshing to hear somebody who is making her way in music without any need to do "talent" shows or be hyped or at the beck and call of celebrity.

This is such a beautiful album by a special talent. It's a sparse album, slow and languid, full of longing and reflection, but never maudlin. Stand out tracks are The Aching, Glimpse of a Time, Sun Has Gone, Out of the Air and In Dreams. I can't believe this is only the second review, it really needs to be heard by many more people.

A tender and touching album. If Pilots Go To Heaven being the standout track, harmonies akin to This Mortal Coil.

Reminds me of Mark Hollis' peerless solo album (but without the creaky floorboards).
