Overpriced Essential 12 Jan 2011
The item arrived promptly and is as described. The lens hood serves it's purpose and is an essential part of my photography kit. However, for the price, the lens hood really is just a cheap piece of plastic, hence the 3 stars. There's nothing wrong with it, it works as it should. It's just a lot to pay for a cheap piece of plastic.

The Maxim lens hood is excellent and as described in the ad. It fits my Canon perfectly. Also arrived faster than expected which is always good.

Simple enough item 12 April 2012

The plastic is not as hard as I thought, since it was expecting it to be in order to give some collision protection to the lens. However, it seems good enough that I don't mind because I think it will still protect the lens well in, for exmaple, a crowd.

I tried putting this on the lens and I still manage to put the lens cap with a filter in all together. This can only be a good thing as I read on some other lens hood's reviews that it cannot be done with those hoods.

The only niggle I had is you will have to hold the lens focus quite tight in order to screw this one onto the lens

My lens is 18-55mm for the Canon 550D
