It came in on time. Just before my trip to London and proved to be really good for travelling. I had quite heavy stuff in it this time, so shoulder straps helped me a lot. Altought a bit pricy I would recommend it if you need a multifunctional travel bag.

this bag is great, unfortunatly my bag came without the padded shoulder strap, instead I got a instruction manual for a celestron travel scope,so im not very happy after paying about 120 quid for a incomplete bag....there are sopposed to be 3 ways of carrying this bag but il probably have to spend more money buying a maxpedition shoulder strap and pad....this has soured me on maxpedition and amazon...I think there takin the piss.

The Ultimate Tactical Travel Bag 11 Dec. 2009
By Bradley Fogle - Published on Amazon.com
This is an incredible bag that has served me well as a constantly deploying Airman. I purchased this bag due to my need for a tactical carry-on bag to use when traveling. I have been pleasantly surprised by the versatility of this bag and its ability to withstand all types of abuse. This bag has now been on trips to and from Iraq, training trips, and general use. It has survived superbly through all manner of over-stuffing!

My primary reason for purchasing this size of bag was to fall within FAA carry-on sizing. No other bag that I've seen gives you the maximum possible space with minimum fuss. The open expanse of the bag's interior allows you to pack enough gear to last 72 hours or more. There is ample space to put an entire uniform with boots inside the bag and have room left over for your laptop and extra personal items. Even when completely stuffed to the point of being hard to zip close, the bag STILL fits into overhead luggage compartments on small commuter jets. When traveling, I often unzip just one end of the bag to access my laptop and travel accessories that I put into one of the mesh pockets. The design of the bag allows you to have it completely open for packing, then minimally open for when you are traveling and want to get at things.

The bag is designed with a completely open interior. This allows you to pack and organize as you wish. The top of the bag unzips across the front, sides, and 1/4 around the back on each end. This lets you open either end partly when the buckles are connected. On each end of the lid are "cheek pockets" that are mesh enclosed. These pockets are great for putting in small items, electronics, and underwear, socks, or other small clothing items. The ability of opening these ends during travel make these pockets great for small electronics that you want to access while traveling. The front, back, and top of the bag have slip compartments. I've used these compartments for books and other items that can slip into them. The back/bottom of the bag has a large, zippered slip compartment. This is also where the stowaway backpack straps go when they are stowed. I've used the compartment for quick storage of magazines while traveling. The bag comes with a robust sling strap that attaches to rings on the ends of the bag. Fully loaded, I've felt that the bag is easier to carry with the backpack straps. But the sling strap is built well enough, and has nice padding, for when I just want to shoulder the bag. There is a neoprene padded top handle, and reinforced handles at each end of the bag that make it easily handled during any use. For those of us that use Molle webbing, the bag has numerous places that additional pouches can be added to.

To summarize, this is the best traveler bag ever. Its ability to fit into overhead airline compartments when completely filled is its best testament. The bag can be purchased in a low key Black, Tan or Foliage Green, or be completely tactical in an ACU print or OD Green. If you travel constantly and hate the confining compartments of backpacks, this is your relief!

Exceeded my expectations 12 July 2011

Bought the Maxpedition Fliegerduffel just last month, and traveled with it the very next day. Capacity is as advertised - as big as you can get and still make the FAA carryon limitations. Plenty of interior space, and the pocketage is well-designed for access from the outside without having to unzip and unstrap the whole shebang.

I liked all the carry options - handles on the top and each narrow end, plus a well-padded single shoulder strap (which I left at home), plus the outstanding hideaway backpack straps complete with chest bungee. The buckles are sturdy and located in the proper places for ease of adjustment.

Everybody needs one of these. But the halt and the lame should be warned - it can get pretty heavy if you load it all the way. Those folks who are used to roller bags might have to do a little training before they hike from one end of O'Hare to the other.

And sho' nuff: Waiting for a flight from Austin to Houston on a commuter-size jet, the gate agent came by, saw that I had a military-looking duffel, and said, "We'll need to tag that for gateside checking - it won't fit in the overhead compartment." I said, au contraire, it certainly would. She said, "It needs to fit in that box over there." Which it DID!! Ha, take that, Granny Grande!

Great bag! 12 July 2010

I got the Fliegerfuffel for my husband for his birthday. I am very impressed with the quality. The stiching is done well, the fabric seems indistructable, the zippers are very hefty. I think this bag will be with us for years to come. It is perfect for air travel, camping, whatever! My husband loves the design - very manly, and loves that it converts easily from shoulder bag to backback. He also mentioned that he was a little surprised at how comfortable it was as a backback. I'd recomend it!

You Just Can't Go Wrong -Great For Flying and Travel 1 Mar. 2013

I now own both the Maxpedition Doppelduffel and the Fliegerduffel and both are absolutely excellent products. The Fliegerduffel is just a few inches shorter end-to-end than the Doppelduffel, but is still capable of carrying several pairs of jeans t-shirts, underclothes, toiletries kit and underclothes. Perfect bag for weekend trips, camping, and can be used as a carry-on for air travel. The stow-away backpack straps are genius! For those who like their gear to be squared way without a bunch of sloppy straps hanging out everywhere - this is the bag for you.

I have now taken 6 plane flights with this Maxpedition Fliegerduffel bag and it makes flying so simple. My traveling companion insisted that I would have to check my Maxpedition bag, but I enjoyed the look of shock on his face when my Fliegerduffel slid effortlessly into and out of the plane's overhead bin. I have paired the Fliegerduffel with the Maxpedition Malaga Gearslinger (which fits easily under an airline seat) and have taken 3 week-long trips without having to pay for any checked baggage. Both of these bags coupled together can be strapped on your back/side keeping both of your hands available as you navigate through airports, subways, rental car terminals and hotels with ease. I also added some soft velcro inside the lid in the main compartment, and when I need even more storage capacity I attach a velcro-backed bag inside the lid which can carry the Maxpedition Aftermath Toiletries Kit, thereby saving space in the bottom of the Fliegerduffel for more clothing and shoes. Highly recommended!

Great Travel Companion 27 Sept. 2011

I cannot say enough good things about this bag. It is good looking, very well constructed, and holds a lot for its size.

When I received it I was a little worried that it was too small, but once I started putting my clothing in it, I found that I had plenty of room. I packed 4 days worth of clothing for a business trip in it and I had room to spare. I am use to using rolling carry-ons and think that the lack of an internal frame and wheels gives you a lot more room in a bag that is still carry-on friendly. I had not problem fitting this in the above the seat luggage compartment of a commuter jet.

The bag can be carried with a shoulder strap, or with attached backpack straps that can be stowed in a zippered compartment. I opted to go with the shoulder strap, which was comfortable, but I was also carrying a messenger bag and the combination of the two was a little ungainly. Next week I am traveling and I am going to try the backpack straps.

One thing to note is that the bag is wide and when getting on or off a plane, the best way to carry it is to use one of the carry handles on the end of the bag with the bag in front of you.

I am really happy with the Fleigerduffel and I am sure I will get many years use out of it.
