5.0 out of 5 stars FOR CEO's or "LittleGuys" 8 Nov 2013
By Robert A. Rose - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
'm a writer, talk show host (Neal was a guest), and book reviewer (for READERS FAVORITE.com). Also as a teacher and psychologist I look at a book as if it were a teaching tool.

This book is a major teaching tool. Neal does all the right things. He introduces a concept and explains its relevance so the reader wants to listen. He explains everything in as simple terms as possible, but doesn't insult the reader. He uses stories by many "experts" that possess knowledge that builds on what that chapter is about. He gives summations of ideas that further clarify his points.

Since I advise authors I was more interested in the beginning and middle of the book because his media advice fits any small business person. Neal gives very specific ways to effectively use Facebook, Twitter, You Tube, Google, Instagram, Pinterest, and a host of other less known media. In this sense this is both a resource and an encyclopedia.

The last third of the book I thought was more for large business, but in actuality, I recommend on reading it carefully because it applies to the major issues almost every one of my radio guests and I emphasize. That is, how to develop a meaningful RELATIONSHIP with anyone and everyone you meet for his and your benefit. It makes life happier, avoids communication errors, and is proactive in preventing unnecessary crises.

I like his PDCA. P for Plan; D for Do; C for Check; and A for Act. His ROI is for Return on Investment. These are simple acronyms to remember, but apply to everything you do and everyone you meet. I recently refused to reschedule a guest who (he had an excuse for each time - 3 - he didn't show) as wasting my time on someone who is not thoughtful is something I no longer tolerate. As a teacher of 50 years I used my methods that fit Neal's PDCA to make most of my lessons more engaging and effective.

On my radio show I got to know Neal's background and experiences and he is as a likable as he is a gifted writer and teacher. As many of the other reviewers have said, it is a book anyone who uses social media should have - not on the book shelf, but on one's desk to frequently use.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gives you the 'how' beyond the 'what' 7 Nov 2013
By Lev Kaye - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
What I most appreciated about 'Maximize Your Social' was Neal's attention to how to make social media strategy actionable. As anyone who's hired strategy consultants will tell you, they often leave unanswered a critical question: "So, exactly HOW do we do this?" Neal tackles the nitty-gritty answers to that question, leveraging both his own expertise and best practices he's curated from his network. This book is a terrific resource for turning social strategy into action.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Help in How to Develop Social Media Strategy for Your Organization 15 Jan 2014
By Norman Reiss - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
Many organizations are using social media, but few know how to do it effectively. Neal has been a social media guru for awhile, and he also brings in subject area experts to discuss specific platforms / topics. He takes you through the entire process from figuring out your strategy, to choosing platforms to focus on, to evaluating your results. He also explains how to use a content/editorial calendar and decide which staff members need to be involved (hint - it's not just Marketing / Communications). This is a great read in helping you to intelligently plan your social media approach and which metrics to use in measuring your return on investment.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a valuable book for any business person, plus it is a pleasure to read 10 Jan 2014
By Reg Nordman - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
I have been following Neil's writings since the early days of social media and he never disappoints. I am calling this the state of the art book on social media . Its practical and thorough, with a good strategic focus. He takes you deep into how to make the best use of the tools and then how to organize yourself and your company on getting the work done well. Its a book for the beginner through to the polished professional - you will all get something valuable from it. At Rocket Builders we advocate a unified voice to all your communication traditional through to social. Neil has a very clear explanation on how to do that. He surprised me with his chapter on G+, its the 2nd largest social network , but it goes way beyond that with its implications on SEO. I spent an hour re-jigging my corporate and personal g+ sites and I am just getting going, following his ideas. As well he makes a compelling argument about expanding our use of YouTube, it is the second largest search engine. y eyes were opened wrto Instagram since the no of mobile content consumers continues to grow rapidly. Several of his points are echoing what was said in the Connected book. This is a valuable book for any business person, plus it is a pleasure to read it.
