Amazon Review

Maximize the Moment is a biblically-based self-help book by TD Jakes, a leading African American pastor, motivational speaker and the author of The Lady, Her Lover and Her Lord. Jakes begins the book with a powerful reminder of the frailty of life, the reason that "we should maximise and prioritise our time and esteem it as precious." In a straightforward, humble style, Jakes then teaches readers to reach their God-given potential in family, work and spiritual life. His advice, in short, is to think of every moment as an opportunity for decision and then to make decisions that are always faithful and constructive. The passages advocating freedom from fear-filled and destructive relationships are especially powerful and well crafted to be useful for both men and women. Maximize the Moment also has a wealth of sayings that stick in the brain, without the cloying sentiment that often colours self-help books. "The wisest thing we can do", Jakes writes "is minimise the liabilities, plan for the unexpected, enjoy the ecstasies, endure the disappointments and then face the inevitable." --Christine Buttery --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

T D Jakes' The Lady, Her Lover, and Her Lord was no.1 on the CBA, Wordstock, and Publishers Weekly bestseller lists and has sold more than a half-million copies. Now he offers a book to show men and women how to maximise their potential and fulfill the divine plan that God has for them. Using ageless biblical principles, Bishop T D Jakes teaches readers that in every moment of every day, God is constantly providing all they need to achieve success. In Maximize the Moment, he explains how they can release themselves from damaging relationships and debilitating fears, how to face and conquer obstacles that may stand in their path to success, and how to move beyond a painful past.

as someone with Faith - i bought this book by the larger than life charismatic US self-help guru , Preacher + conspicuous bestseller / success story : one TD Jakes to learn more and be inspired from a Christian perspective. "Maximise the Moment.." is from 1999 and whilst a thoroughly well reasoned, motivational book for people to fulfil their lives + promise it is not for me a true book of Faith. why ? well - TD Jakes is a consummate lucid communicator giving endless clear to understand analogies, examples of how people overcome life's challenges but the biblical quotes feel for me a little tacked on amidst the hard headed "go your own way/ leave people who drag you down in life" a little hollow.

criticisms also for a lack of an index of biblical references used in the book, a bibliography of recommended further reading or key issues / subjects are not provided in "Maximise" which is a shame as it leaves the reader to plough through the book (some 270 albeit easy to read pages) with no real specific map of the issues discussed. a shame.

"Maximise the Moment" IS a thoroughly informative , lucid read for people seeking clear, common sense advise on maximising their relationships, potential + lives but just don'e think its any kind of specific Christian led book that actively engages people via the Bible, its teachings or wisdom. my girlfriend had a good point when we discussed this book recently, in that TD Jakes IS today undeniably a powerful communicator and man of God , but "Maximise" is perhaps younger TD still to realise his true spiritual potential.

still "Maximise" is recommended - but with slight reservations. 3 stars going on 4.

Maximize the moment 6 Jan. 2000
By Ebrahim Macharia - Published on
Format: Hardcover
This is the best xmas gift I ever received. This book will change your life. If you have heard TD Jakes preaching, you have seen his ability to excite the audience and keep them screaming. This performance is repeated in the book.It starts at such a high note. The introduction alone sends millions of questions thru your mind -past, present and future. The book keeps you evaluating your life using criterias that are supported biblically. It gives you the Bible scriptures to justfy or drive actions in your life. Read this book.

A Down to Earth Balanced book for all Who Need a plan 14 April 2000
By "paco1" - Published on
Format: Hardcover
Once again T D Jakes has touched my heart and soul by writing such an insightful balanced book that is full of ground breaking truth about how to look at life and live it to its full potential. In a day and time when there is so much dysfunction in the body of christ, this book brings back the balance for anyone who is strung out on extremes of spiritual mumbo jumbo. Mazimizing the Moment paints a clear balanced picture of how to handle our everyday lives, other people, and different situations whether bad or good, and teaches you how to gain insight into how we should put our plan in the hands of God who has blessed us with great unrealized potential. Anyone who reads this marvelous, down to earth account of God's plan for our lives will come away enlightened. Many unanswered questions will be answered. Thankyou for sharing your heart and personal life in this book because now I know that life is about maximizing my moments. Again this book has set me free in many ways and I suggest everyone read it before they enter the winter of their lives. Thank you for telling us how to appreciate ourselves and start living instead of existing.

Enlightening - Empowering! 26 Mar. 2000
By Mindy Silva - Published on
Format: Hardcover
I found this book to be extremely powerful in it's message. It's no-nonsense approach goes straight to the heart of the matter. He tells it like it is, keeping within the confines of the spiritual laws that govern our lives. This is a golden nugget I am passing on to others, hoping it's as helpful to them as it was to me. If after reading this book you find you don't like it (it made you feel uncomfortable in some way?) then perhaps it's because it's message has stirred up some residue that needs to be dealt with. This book's message is about changing and streamlining the most precious commodity we have - our own lives! It's about taking stock of what we're doing and how we're doing it and why, then showing you how to stop doing what's not working and get on with life. I was definitely blessed by reading this book. Thank you, TD Jakes. (I would love to do a Spanish translation for my Spanish speaking friends in South America who can't read English.)

A place called there 7 Feb. 2000

Maximize The Moment is a very inspiring and motivating book. As brothers and sisters in Christ, we have to make decisions on a daily bases. Pastor T.D. Jakes lets us know that we have to make wise choices with a plan in our head and with God in our heart. After I read this book I started applying it to my life and meditating more to finish the race and running the race patiently. In order for you to understand what I am saying in this paragraph, read the book and you will find that this book is good to the last drop.

Powerfully Motivational! 16 Jan. 2004
By Dr. W. G. Covington, Jr. - Published on
Format: Paperback
This excellent book stirs one on to productive activity for God. The issue address is that of the quality of one's life. Jakes writes, "...the question isn't how long we live but how well we live. What matters are the moments we live life to the fullest." That theme is eloquently explored throughout the remainder of the book. Essentially maintaining a high level of quality in life relates to making the right choices consistently. "Choosing which to respond to and which to ignore help you to maximize your life," Jakes points out.
Adequately eliminating some things is one wise decision that can be made. We're encouraged to cut off things that aren't working in our lives. Like other writers in this genre, the author believes God created each of us uniquely for specific purposes to be accomplished in our lives during our time on earth.
A creative discussion of desire is developed. He equates it with intensity or passion, noting "intensity focuses on how badly we want it while objectives focus on the specificity of what we want." He couples relationship development with passion for goal attainment and advises not to partner with people who lack passion for the vision. Diversity in relationships add depth that would otherwise be missing. Healthy relationships result when strengths are exchanged he tells us.
His section on the necessity of rest is particularly refreshing. Not only is it essential to proper health, but it enables one to enjoy the journey.
This wonderful book is so full, so rich, so delightful that a review can't capture the fullness of the inspiration it brings. This is the type of reading successful people do. I had heard the author speak on TV on several occasions. In reading this book I saw a depth to him that oral delivery can't portray. He writes in such a way that you KNOW he's a reader. Buy this book! You'll have a richer life if you apply its teachings.
