Product Description

Review

...the layout is clear, inviting and user friendly. Line drawings are clear and easily understood, photographs are well reproduced and display the essential features, the text is easy to read...[this book should] be read by clinicians at all levels...readable enough to have become a coffee-break favourite, yet detailed enough to provide enough back-up for the advanced procedures seen in a busy unit. Fantastic! (Dr Robert Bate, BDS Birmingham, DPDS Bristol, General Dental Practitioner, Warwick)

Edited by two leading consultant oral and max/fax surgeons...a very comprehensive, authoritative and concise text has been written...a worthy companion to undergraduate students, candidates studying for MFDS/MJDF and specialist trainees at both junior and senior level...information is easy to find and refer to 'on the job'...this book will share the success of the rest of the Oxford Handbooks series for many editions to come...every oral and max/fax trainee in the country is eagerly anticipating its arrival. (British Dental Journal)

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful By Robert Bate on 12 Jun. 2010
Format: Flexibound
As a busy General Dental Practitioner with an interest in the specialty, a one time Clinical Assistantship in a Maxillofacial Unit, and a son training in the specialty, I eagerly awaited this book.
I was not disappointed.
As with all the Oxford handbooks, the layout is clear, inviting and user friendly. Line drawings are clear and easily understood, photographs are well reproduced and display the essential features, the text is easy to read without the jarring syntax errors and transatlantic jargon seen in some other publications. The detail is sometimes a little brief but this little book does not pretend to be a substitute for the more esoteric texts, rather an overview with more detailed descriptions of the salient points.
I do find that a "sit back and see the bigger picture" approach is refreshing, it allows the book to be read by clinicians at all levels, those with the appropriate knowledge and experience will appreciate the finer detail, those who are perhaps nervously awaiting their first full day in Theatre will be able to scan the relevant section and get a quick basic idea of what is actually going on.
We love this little book. It is readable enough to have become a coffee break favourite, yet detailed enough to provide enough back-up for the advanced procedures seen in a busy unit.Fantastic!

Rob Bate BDS, DPDS
