The Maxi-Cosi Tobi is designed to include the latest technology to ensure that you and your child enjoy your days out together. The Tobi is a forward-facing Group 1 car seat appropriate for children weighing from 9 kg to 18 kg, or 9 months to around 3.5 years.

Maxi-Cosi Tobi (Black Reflection)
As of September 2006, the use of safety belts in cars and approved child safety devices is mandatory for all children under 12 years old or less than 1.35 metres/4'5" in height for transport by car in the front and back seat. Every Maxi-Cosi car seat model--defined in the latest UN safety standard ECE R44.04--is specially designed for each age, as your child grows from birth to the age of 12.
- It is always the weight not the age of a child that dictates the choice of car seat.
- Do not buy or accept a second-hand car seat--you can never be certain of its full history and it may not provide adequate protection in an accident.

- Higher Riding Position : The Maxi-Cosi Tobi car seat makes it easy to see out of the car window thanks to a base that positions the seat higher up in the car.
Installation : The Tobi is installed using a standard 3-point seat belt and a clever belt routing system. The seat belt tensioner ensures the seat belt is secured extra tightly.
Right Protection: The Maxi-Cosi Tobi also features Side Protection System for extra safety in case of side impact in a collision.
Headrest and Harness : Both, the adjustable headrest and harness of the Tobi go together to fit your growing child and offer optimum comfort and safety. Harness belt retention hooks keep the harness out of the way when placing your child or taking him/her out of the seat.
Harness Belt System : The Maxi-Cosi Tobi has a harness belt system that 'springs' open as soon as the belt buckle is opened. The belt buckle also acts as the control button for the belt system i.e. when the buckle is opened, the control of the shoulder belts is automatically released and the belts can be made longer.
Colour Indicator: This Group 1 car seat has a colour indicator to show that the seat is locked for driving.
Recline Positions: The Maxi-Cosi Tobi offers 5 comfortable recline positions for your little one, from sitting to sleeping. Pull the positioning handle under the front of the seat upwards and then pull or push the seat forwards or backwards.
Car Seat Cover: The Tobi's seat cover can be removed for washing. It is advisable to buy an extra cover when purchasing the car seat so that you can continue to use it even when the cover is being washed and dried. Pick a summer cover for your little one to stay cool when travelling in the Tobi.
Accessories: Accessories available (sold separately) for the Maxi-Cosi Tobi include summer cover, play tray, and pocket (holder for drinks and bottles).
Installing the Maxi-Cosi Tobi
Only use the Maxi-Cosi Tobi on a front-facing seat that has been provided with an automatic 3-point belt provided it has been approved according to the ECE R16 standard or similar. Correct fitting of the car seat belt is essential for the safety of your child. The car seat must be attached in the correct sequence along the red marks on the Maxi-Cosi Tobi.
Remove the headrest of the seat where the Maxi-Cosi Tobi is to be used in the car if it is in the way. Do not forget to put the headrest back when the seat is used again.

Secure the car seat harness--ensure you hear an audible 'click'
Leave no more than 1 finger/1 cm gap between harness and child
Ensure the shoulder belts are never twisted or damaged
Maxi-Cosi Tobi and Your Baby--Safety Guidelines
- Installation in a Car: The Maxi-Cosi Tobi is intended for car use only. The Maxi-Cosi Tobi must always be placed in a forward-facing position in the car. Lock fold-down rear seats before installing the Maxi-Cosi Tobi.
Airbags: The Maxi-Cosi Tobi may be used in the front seat and in the back seat, even if the car is equipped with an airbag. However, it is recommended for installation in the back seat. If this is not possible, make sure that, if installing on a front seat equipped with an airbag, the seat is in the rearmost position.
Use of Harness: Always secure your baby with the harness belt, even when he/she is not in the car. Ensure you clearly hear an audible 'click' when securing the harness. The belt system should be adjusted according to the height of the child. Make sure you can fit no more than one finger (1cm) between the harness belts and your baby. Ensure the shoulder belts are never twisted or damaged and are straight from the shell and across your baby's shoulders.
Headrest: Check to make sure the headrest of the Maxi-Cosi Tobi is adjusted to the proper height.
Sun Exposure: Always cover the car seat when exposed to direct sunlight in the car to avoid the cover, metal and plastic parts from becoming too hot for your child's skin.

Bought this seat for my 9 month old after some research on the internet. Previous seat (infant carrier) was also maxi-cosi and I was happy with the brand.
It is reasonably easy to fit (once I was shown how to use my knees to secure it whilst tightening the car seat belt)! Once secure it is a great seat, easy to tighten and recline. I noted that you can only recline other brands before the child sits in the seat which seemed hopeless!
Have to say I also experienced the problem of the belts not tightening at same time however this was easily rectified by adjusting the belts at the back of the seat (the manual explains how to do this).
If you have bought this seat I would recommend you log on to the manufacturer website where they will send you a free attachment to stop crumbs getting into the belt tightening mechanism.
Only gripe with this seat is the price but you get what you pay for in the end and if you shop around you can get a good deal.

We had read previous reviews about problems with the straps tightening and locking. We called Maxi Cosi and asked about this issue and they told us over the phone that these problems had been resolved. We have had our Tobi for 4 months now and will be taking it back to get a different seat. Our 15-month old can almost always wiggle out of the straps. The reasoning for this is that after you tighten the straps (getting the green box), the straps loosen while you are driving. I would say that more than 50% of the time within 5 minutes of being in the car, the straps have loosened and are no longer on the green box. Ridiculous!

At almost 9 months our baby was ready to start in a proper car seat but being a first child we had no idea what to look for. The Which Guide gave us a few pointers and also recommended the Tobi, although friends recommended several other makes. Having visited our local baby store and tried several seats out, we chose the Tobi because it appeared easy to fit and adjust and to be very comfortable.
Neither my wife or I are particularly technically minded but we fitted it at first attempt and have had no problems in adjusting the harness or head rest to fit our baby. In fact it was so comfortable that she fell asleep within minutes of being first strapped in.
Our only gripe, if we have one, is that the seat doesn't recline as much as we expected, but this has had no impact on our baby's ability to travel long distances in comfort. The design of the seat also means that she has an excellent view out of the car window.
