Arrive ahead of the crowd with Maxi-Cosi FeroFix

The Maxi-Cosi FeroFix is designed to help your child climb quickly into the car seat, get buckled up and ready to hit the road. The FeroFix is a forward-facing Group 2/3 car seat appropriate for children weighing from 15 kg to 36 kg, or 3.5 years to around 12 years.

Follow the seat belt routing guides on the Maxi-Cosi FeroFix
Maxi-Cosi FeroFix (Total Black)

As of September 2006, the use of safety belts in cars and approved child safety devices is mandatory for all children under 12 years old or less than 1.35 metres/4'5" in height for transport by car in the front and back seat. Every Maxi-Cosi car seat model--defined in the latest UN safety standard ECE R44.04--is specially designed for each age, as your child grows from birth to the age of 12.

  • It is always the weight not the age of a child that dictates the choice of car seat.
  • Do not buy or accept a second-hand car seat--you can never be certain of its full history and it may not provide adequate protection in an accident.

Ride in comfort with the FeroFix's adjustable headrest
The Maxi-Cosi FeroFix offers your child 2 recline positions

Why Choose the Maxi-Cosi FeroFix?

Installation : Retractable IsoFix connectors allow the Maxi-Cosi FeroFix to be locked to the body of the car in a matter of seconds and ensure extra stability.

Convenient Design : The innovative seat design of the FeroFix, with easy to access buckle and user-friendly belt hooks, make it simpler and quicker for the child to be buckled up in the car.

Buckling Up : The child is secured in the seat with the car's 3-point seat belt. Buckling your child in the FeroFix is made simpler due to the seat belt guides; the buckle is visible and easily accessible so that the child can fasten their own seat belt.

Lightweight and Compact : The Maxi-Cosi FeroFix is compact and light making it hassle-free to switch from one car to another.

Right Protection: The Maxi-Cosi FeroFix features AirProtect technology for extra head protection.

Headrest : This Group 2/3 car seat has an easy-to-adjust headrest. With this fully adjustable head and shoulder support, the seat grows with your child. The button on the top of the headrest allows you to adjust the length as desired.

Recline Positions : The Maxi-Cosi FeroFix offers user-friendly recline--1 sitting and 1 relaxing position--with easy access at the front. Never adjust the recline positions of the Maxi-Cosi FeroFix whilst your child is in it.

Adjustable Seat : The FeroFix can also be adjusted both height and width-wise to grow with your child.

IsoFix Version : The Maxi-Cosi Fero (available separately) is a non-IsoFix version of this car seat and requires installation with a standard car seat belt.

Installing the Maxi-Cosi FeroFix

The open design and IsoFix connectors of the Maxi-Cosi FeroFix lock the car seat to the bodywork of the car. Only use the Maxi-Cosi FeroFix on a front-facing seat that has been provided with an automatic 3-point belt provided it has been approved according to the ECE R16 standard or similar. Do not use a 2-point belt.

IsoFix is an international standardised system to install child car seats and is fitted in most new cars. The system consists of two anchor points located between the backrest and seat of the rear or front passenger seat that are connected to the body of the car.

Remove the car seat headrest if it stops you from adjusting the headrest of the Maxi-Cosi FeroFix to the desired height. Make sure to replace the headrest of the back seat of your vehicle when you remove the car seat.

Do not recline the Maxi-Cosi FeroFix when your child is in the seat
The Maxi-Cosi FeroFix is installed to the car's IsoFix anchor points
The seat belt is positioned at or 1 cm above the child's shoulder level

Maxi-Cosi FeroFix and Your Child--Safety Guidelines

Installation in a Car: The Maxi-Cosi FeroFix is intended for car use only. The Maxi-Cosi FeroFix must always be placed in a forward-facing position in the car. Lock fold-down rear seats before installing the Maxi-Cosi FeroFix.

Seat Belt: As your child is secured in the Fero using the car seat belt, ensure that the belt is positioned at or 1 cm above the child's shoulder level.

Headrest : Check to make sure the headrest of the Maxi-Cosi FeroFix is adjusted to the proper height.

Back Support : The Maxi-Cosi FeroFix back support cannot be removed to ensure optimum safety.

Buckling Up: Ensure that the car seat belt under the stomach lie as low as possible, to properly support the pelvis.

Sun Exposure: Always cover the car seat when exposed to direct sunlight in the car to avoid the cover, metal and plastic parts from becoming too hot for your child's skin.

I was fortunate enough to have been selected to review the FeroFix car seat by Maxi-Cosi. I say fortunate because it really is an excellent car seat.

The FeroFix is an IsoFix seat (with 3 point safety belt installation) suitable for children from 15 to 36 kg (approximately 4 to 12 years old) and my 17 kg daughter was the willing tester.

This was my first experience with an IsoFix car seat, and after checking out the suitability of my car for the FeroFix on the Maxi-Cosi car fitting list (on their website at www.maxi-cosi.com), I started to install it. Half an hour later, I was still stuck in the driveway tearing my hair out. This was no fault of the FeroFix nor its instructions, but my Nissan Qashqai's poorly marked isofix points. Once I had realised there was a hole in the bottom seat cushion and access to the IsoFix points was not between the top and bottom cushion, the seat itself was relatively straightforward to fit, and I was immensely grateful that the FeroFix is lightweight. The seat belt then threaded through an easily accessible and yet secure guide attached to the headrest, and the seat was ready to use.

My daughter was very keen to try out the seat and immediately commented on the bubble pattern on the cover and how padded the seat was. The padding is indeed thick all over and it does look particularly comfortable for a car seat, with a supportive and padded headrest and backrest. The car seat also has a recline facility which we have not yet tested but would be useful for long or late evening journeys, and is very easy to operate (although this cannot be done whilst the child is sitting in the seat).

The backrest of the seat can be adjusted easily by pressing a button, and not only does it expand in height but also in width so it grows with your child.

The use of IsoFix definitely gave the seat more stability compared with my old stage 2/3 seat, and I am really pleased to have an IsoFix car seat to take me right through this stage. My daughter is very happy with the seat, and for me she is very comfortable and the seat is correctly and safely secured in the car.

The FeroFix retails for £175 which may sound at the upper end of the market but this vital piece of safety equipment is built to last. I would not hesitate to recommend it.

I am taking part in consumer testing for the Maxi-Cosi Ferofix car seat for 4 - 12 year olds, on behalf of Dorel UK. The seat arrived at my workplace and immediately my colleagues who have children/grandchildren gathered round to see the new seat I had been talking about for a week. The steel grey colour got many admiring looks and the embroidered circles give that little extra touch. The seat cover fabric is lovely and soft and is cotton rather than some of the nylon/polyester seat covers I have had which click and go bobbly. I had various people asking me if I really wanted it and wouldn't I like to give it them instead. I was adamant that yes I did want it, yes it is a car seat but it just looks lovely even in the box.
This was my first experience of an Isofix seat, and fitting it into my Ford Fiesta (2009 model), onto the Isofix points was simple, it was done in seconds, and then the seat belt passes through an easily accessible guide just under the headrest, there is a little hook that falls into place to keep it there and when removing the seat belt you lift this and the seat belt easily slides out, not at all fiddly like one seat I have used.
I am testing the seat with a just 4 year old, who weighs just over 15kg, so she is at the bottom of the age/size range for this seat and therefore the headrest is in its lowest position. Despite this of course I have had a play and the adjustment is easy, press the button on the top of the headrest and pull upwards, as you pull upwards the side wings expand outwards - genius. This is amazing and I have demonstrated this feature to everyone who will let me. It is just as easy to return to the original position, press the button in again and push down to the required height and the side wings go back in again and this can be done with the seat in position in the car.
The seat has two positions, upright and recline, the reclined position is achieved by pressing in two buttons at the front corners of the seat and pulling toward you. This gives a good relaxing position which Ellie actually prefers to the upright position.
My little tester was reluctant at first to make the transition from her Maxi-Cosi Axiss to her new "big girl seat" but once tempted into it she commented that she liked it because it was comfy and soft and she does look very comfortable sitting in it.
At £175 it is not at the cheaper end of the price range for this category of seat but you can tell that the quality is good and whilst being robust it is lightweight and will, I imagine, last the years it is needed.
Not that I want to ever take it out of my car but, for the purposes of testing, I have tried it in friends cars and in all cases it has been just as simple to fit as in my own. Some of my friends have older children so a few of different ages have tried it and the comments have all been very positive. Obviously a seat with a backrest is safer than just the booster cushion type but one size doesn't fit all unless you have a Ferofix. Older children begin to resent being in a seat when their friends aren't and peer pressure may make you give in and tell them they don't have to use a seat anymore - all the children that have tried my Ferofix (ranging from 4 to 11) have said that they like the seat and would be happy to travel in it, even to school.
Everyone who transports children in a vehicle needs one (or more) of these seats. My 4 year old has asked when she is getting one for the other car!

We were really pleased to be selected to review the Maxi-Cosi Ferofix car seat. We decided to go for an Isofix fitting seat (with 3 point safety belt installation), which is suitable for age 3.5 to 12 years (15-36kg), due to getting our first mobility car for our son, who is 4, and who has cerebral palsy mainly affecting his legs and lower trunk.

We have had Maxi Cosi car seats since the day we brought our son home and we can't recommend then strongly enough after being involved in an accident where someone pulled out in front of me, I was so thankful that my son was OK and this is down to the brilliant car seat we had which was a Maxi-Cosi Priory XP and this is why we were looking for the next car seat with Maxi-Cosi, but looking at an Isofix one.

My husband fitted the car seat really quickly, following the easy to follow instructions. The seat belt then threaded through the easily accessible guides and we were so impressed with how secure our first Isofix seat was.

Our son was so excited at trying out his new big boy car seat and commented on the colour and bubble pattern on the side and loved having a big boy seat belt. We are very pleased with the support the car seat gives, especially around the waist and head (it has air protect technology for extra head protection) and how comfy my son found the seat on his first trip out in it. The car seat has a very easy to use reclining facility. The seat also has a very easy to operate adjusting in height button and it also adjusts in width with a growing child.

We can't praise the Isofix car seat enough, our son's safety being paramount and we are really happy with the comfort of our son and knowing the car seat is fitted correctly using the Isofix points. We love how lightweight and compact the seat is, making it hassle free to switch from car to car. We love the colour Total Black, which we were selected to review, it looks smart and is really easy to keep clean !
