With the Maxi-Cosi FamilyFix Collection, you enjoy the perfect marriage of safety and convenience. The Maxi-Cosi Pebble (0 to 13 kg) infant car seat and the Maxi-Cosi Pearl (9 to 18 kg) child car seat both fit onto the Maxi-Cosi FamilyFix Base. This car seat base uses IsoFix attachment points for optimum safety and installation.

Maxi-Cosi FamilyFix Base
All Maxi-Cosi car seats are comprehensively tested to ensure that they are perfectly safe. But the type of car seat you buy depends on the age, make and model of your car--some are designed to work with IsoFix anchor points that connect to the car's IsoFix system, others on their own with the car's three-point seat belt, and some can be used on bases that secure by either method. Additionally, you may need to consider your car seat choice if you own multiple cars, and their individual fitting mechanisms.
The Maxi-Cosi FamilyFix Base has been approved according to the most recent guidelines of the ECE R 44/04, the European standard for car safety seats.

What is IsoFix?
IsoFix (International Standards Organisation FIX) is widely recognised as the safest way to install a child car seat. It is estimated that a two-thirds of car seats are incorrectly fitted, but IsoFix is so user-friendly, it makes it almost impossible to get the installation wrong.
Most modern cars come fitted with IsoFix connection points located at the back of the vehicle seat. These are permanently connected to the body of the car and your IsoFix car seat attaches securely to these connection points. Some very new cars even come fitted with a third point that prevents the seat from tipping forward.

Fitting your Maxi-Cosi car seat to the IsoFix system is easy; some click directly into these points, while others clip to the Maxi-Cosi FamilyFix or EasyFix Base. All Maxi-Cosi IsoFix car seats and bases are fitted with a height-adjustable support leg that rests on the floor of the car. This means that the seats and bases can be used in most cars made in the past few years. Indicators confirm that the car seat is correctly fitted before you take to the road.

Safety Instructions
- Airbags for Rearward-facing Car Seats: The airbag must always be switched off when using the Maxi-Cosi FamilyFix together with the Maxi-Cosi Pebble or Maxi-Cosi CabrioFix on the front passenger seat.
Airbags for Forward-facing Car Seats: The airbag must also always be switched off or the passenger seat placed in the rearmost position, when using the Maxi-Cosi FamilyFix Base together with the Maxi-Cosi Pearl on the front passenger seat.
Maintenance: Maintain the Maxi-Cosi FamilyFix regularly. Check to make sure all electronic parts are functioning properly and that the batteries have enough voltage by pressing the test button.
Support Leg: The Maxi-Cosi FamilyFix support leg must always be unfolded completely, locked and placed in the forward-most position. The support leg is important as it not only adds stability to the base, but also limits rotation in case of an accident.

We bought this along with the Maxi-Cosi Pebble carrier for our new baby. At first I was put off by the price, but after more than a year of use I have to admit it has been worth it.
The base is fairly simple to fit, however it also very easy to get it wrong (which might have been what happened to the one-star reviewer). If you get it wrong then it will bleep at you; especially when turning corners, when the weight of the carrier on the unit shifts it enough to trigger the sensors. The way it works is that it has three sets of sensors which tell it/you if it is properly fixed - one on the leg, one on the Isofix struts, and one for the carrier. I had no problems fitting it to the middle seat of my C4 Grand Picasso, but when I moved it to our Ford Fiesta (current model) it took a few goes to get it right; until then I was also greeted with regular beeps. In this case, adjusting the length of the leg solved the problem. We've moved it between cars a number of times, and it's a very simple operation - retract the Isofix struts, remove from car, extend struts again, clip struts into other car seat and push into place (adjusting leg as necessary). Job done.
Once you've got the base properly fitted, then it's a simple matter of dropping the carrier onto the base - the weight of the carrier is generally enough to lock it in place, although you may find you need to wiggle it a bit at first until you get used to it (took me about a week, my wife slightly longer). Again, getting this bit wrong will result in you being bleeped at; a handy display on the base even tells you which bit you've got wrong. Once in place, you can then easily slide the carrier into whichever position you want - lower for a sleeping baby, higher for a wakey baby.
Our baby has now outgrown the Pebble and is now using a Pearl, also on the FamilyFix base. In this case it's less of a benefit as you're not removing the seat as well as the baby any more, but for the first 9-12 months it's definitely worthwhile.

Makes it amazingly simple and quick to load and unload the maxi-cosi. More upright position can also be set (in case of reflux etc). Easy to move from car to car (with isofix clamps). Not cheap, but much less time spent standing by the road with an open door handling a baby is a substantial safety (and back) benefit!

This is a fantastic product, very easy to use. I had a c section with both of my children. Lifting car seats was difficult during recovery. I did not have this product for my 1st but bought it for my 2nd and it is the best money i have spent! saved awkward leaning over fastening seat belts, and much quicker to get in the car, especially when there is another little one to sort out too!
