As of September 2006, the use of safety belts in cars and approved child safety devices is mandatory for all children under 12 years old, or less than 1.35 metres in height, for transport by car in the front or back seat. Every Maxi-Cosi car seat model, defined in the UN safety standard ECE R44.04, is specially designed for each age as your child grows from birth to the age of 12 years.
- It is always the weight, not the age, of a child that dictates the choice of car seat.
- Do not buy or accept a second-hand car seat – you can never be certain of its full history and it may not provide adequate protection in an accident.
The Axiss offers eight recline positions.
The Maxi-Cosi Axiss car seat can turn 90 degrees right or left.
Why Choose the Maxi-Cosi Axiss?
Rotating car seat
The Maxi-Cosi Axiss car seat can turn 90 degrees right or left, giving you easy access to your child to secure them in the car seat or take them out when you've arrived.
The Axiss is installed using a standard three-point seatbelt. It has an integral belt tensioning system with automatic locking system for secure installation. The seatbelt tensioner ensures the seatbelt is secured extra tightly.
This Group 1 car seat has a colour indicator to show that the seat is locked for driving.
The Maxi-Cosi Axiss also features side protection for extra safety in case of side impact in a collision.
Headrest and harness
Both the adjustable headrest and the harness of the Axiss go together to fit your growing child and offer optimum comfort and safety. The height of the headrest and harness belts can be adjusted at the same time at the front. Harness belt retention hooks keep the harness out of the way when placing your child or taking him/her out of the seat.
The Maxi-Cosi Axiss offers a useful eight comfortable recline positions for your little one, from sitting to sleeping.
Car seat cover
The Axiss's seat cover can be removed for washing. It is advisable to buy an extra cover when purchasing the car seat, so that you can continue to use it even when the cover is being washed and dried.
Accessories available (sold separately) for the Maxi-Cosi Axiss include the summer cover, play tray, and pocket (holder for drinks and bottles).
Installing the Maxi-Cosi Axiss
The Maxi-Cosi Axiss may only be installed using a standard three-point adult car seatbelt. Correct fitting of the car seatbelt is essential for the safety of your child. The seatbelt must be attached in the correct sequence along the red belt routing marks on the Maxi-Cosi Axiss.
The Maxi-Cosi Axiss should preferably be installed on a rear seat. If this is not possible, it can be installed on the passenger seat providing this does not contravene local laws in the country where the car seat is used. When installing the car seat behind the passenger seat, position the passenger seat backrest upright and as far forward as possible so that the child cannot knock it.
The direction of rotation of the Maxi-Cosi Axiss should always be adjusted to the direction of the nearest car door. The button for adjusting the direction of rotation is located on the underside of the seat.
Ensure the shoulder belts are never twisted or damaged.
Secure the car seat harness (ensure you hear an audible 'click').
The colour indicator shows that the Maxi-Cosi Axiss is locked for driving.
Leave no more than a one-finger/1 cm gap between harness and child.
Installation in a car
The Maxi-Cosi Axiss is intended for car use only. The Axiss must always be placed in a forward-facing position in the car. Lock fold-down rear seats before installing the Axiss.
Deactivate the airbag if using the Maxi-Cosi Axiss on the front passenger seat.
Use of harness
Always secure your baby with the harness belt, even when he/she is not in the car. Ensure you clearly hear an audible 'click' when securing the harness. The belt system should be adjusted according to the height of the child. Make sure you can fit no more than one finger (1 cm) between the harness belts and your baby. Ensure the shoulder belts are never twisted or damaged and are straight from the shell and across your baby's shoulders.
Check to make sure the headrest of the Maxi-Cosi Axiss is adjusted to the proper height.
Always cover the car seat when exposed to direct sunlight in the car to avoid the cover, metal, and plastic parts from becoming too hot for your child's skin.
Next stage car seats
Wait to switch your child to a next stage car seat when they have reached the maximum weight limit, or if the top of their head protrudes above the top edge of the seat. Recommended next-stage car seats include, for Group 2/3, the Maxi-Cosi Rodi AirProtect, Rodi XP, Rodi SPS, Fero, and FeroFix.
