After deliberating on putting in Cat-5 wiring around my house to enable smooth video streaming from my PC to my PS3 I went for these instead and they are really good and reliable day after day, particularly considering the price.
I started with a twin pack which worked fine out of the box and then bought a single to make my network up to 3 points.
I've put 4 instead of 5 stars as the speed is good but 200Mbs is theoretical. The two units on the same ring main report a speed of 185Mbs. The one upstairs on a different ring main reports 80Mbs. This is in a relatively new house with good wiring. Speed is still decent but not 200Mbs but is far more reliable than wireless. However don't forget the limiting factor will always nearly be the equipment you plug in.
I've also marked down a star for the poor documentation and web support.
I've been working in IT and with networks for 25 years plus and I am responsible for an enterprise network with over 5000 devices. However, I struggled to add in the 3rd unit to the existing 2, though it was my school boy error that caused the issue the (poor) documentation played its part!
The 3rd unit did not seem to sync with the other 2 whether I used the "push button" method or supplied software it wouldn't join the network for more than 60 seconds. The lights on the front of the unit and the software indicated the 3rd unit was connecting then dropping out.
The catch is you have to ensure there is ACTIVE equipment (ie a switched on PC or Hub) connected to all the homeplugs when syncing them together. The manual doesn't mention this!!
Once I\d spend 2 hours scratching my head and finally just plugging the 3rd unit into a PC to see what happened all worked brilliantly.
Hopefully this review will save a few others from hitting the same problem - I was on the verge of returning it thinking it was faulty!!
We live and learn!
