I have a detailed knowledge of the spa and wellness industry and have considerable experience in the creation of luxury spas that include a strong wellness component. I have been involved in the creation, structuring and operation of the ESPA Life wellness spas - the 'next generation of spa'. I have broad commercial knowledge and experience in more general commercial matters such as budgeting, P&L accountability and the management of teams.
I have a driving passion for health, vitality and wellbeing.
My skills are the seamless integration of evidence based CAM (Complementary and Alternative Medicine), orthodox medicine, functional medicine, laboratory testing, physiotherapy led rehabilitation, personal training and healthy cuisine into luxury spas, hotels and resorts. CAREER HISTORY & EXPERIENCE
January 2010 - Present - ESPA International - Head of Complementary Therapies
I created the ESPA Life concept under the direction of Sue Harmsworth. I am contracted as part of the operations team to launch ESPA Life at the Corinthia hotel in London and at The Gleneagles Hotel in Scotland.
Achievements:
*I had control and input on numerous ESPA Life development budgets. The total budget for Corinthia was an estimated £20million and the direct ESPA Life budget for Gleneagles was £200,000 as part of a £1million refurbishment.
*Created a 200 page Consultation Document outlining and defining the ESPA Life concept for Sue Harmsworth, ESPA CEO.
*Worked with the ESPA Director of Spa Operations to create the P&L for ESPA Life at Corinthia and Gleneagles.
*Established the list of approved suppliers for all the OS&E for the ESPA Life project.
*Worked with the Concept Software Company to develop a unique paperless consultation and patient record system. www.csscorporate.com
*Appointed the ESPA Life CAM teams (naturopaths, osteopaths, Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioners, colonic hydrotherapists, physiotherapists, personal trainers) for the new ESPA Life spas. This involved interviewing and trade testing all candidates, including applicants from Australia, the United States and Canada.
*Created the ESPA Life Food and Beverage concept - 'Taste of health'.
*Created the branded ESPA Life training plan and then trained each newly established CAM team over a four week period.
*Created the Standard Operating Procedures, Brand Standards, Consent forms, Insurance requirements, Audit Documentation and Health Risk Assessments required to operate an ESPA Life spa.
*Analysed EU and UK legislation regarding CAM and consulted the ASA (advertising standards agency) in the UK regarding all ESPA Life collateral.
*Conduct the ESPA brand and clinical audit for all ESPA Life properties.
*Co-ordinating with International Media and PR for the new spas.
July 2006 - Present - Restaurant Associates - Corporate Nutritional consultant
Provide corporate guidance on the food and beverage offer for over 200 locations and 130 high-profile clients (including BA and Credit Suisse) for major UK caterer, Restaurant Associates. This includes devising menus with international Michelin stared chefs Albert and Michel Roux, presenting large workshops and participating in pitches for new businesses.
2009 - Present - Compass Group International - Corporate Nutritional consultant
Provide corporate guidance on nutritional trends to the Compass Group, a stock exchange listed company with an annual turnover of £1.8bn.

I grew the start-up business into the sector leader that it is today. The business model was to take high net-worth individuals away to exotic 5 star locations worldwide with a team of nutritionists, chefs, personal trainers, yoga teachers and masseurs. The aim was to optimise health, fitness and vitality.

INTERESTS
Ultra-long distance running, disability awareness, stem cell research and my wonderful family and three children. My driving force is a passion for health, vitality and wellbeing. I was born in beautiful Cape Town, South Africa. My early years were spent outdoors, rock climbing and mountaineering. I love being fit and my major passion is 'Ultra Marathon' running with my next 56km Ultra race in Cape Town in April.
