By reasons miles away my understanding, Max Reger has always been an overlooked composer, as well by conductors as most listeners.
Just a bunch of prominent conductors (Hermann Scherchen was probably the most devoted of all of them) consecrated all the best they could in order to diffuse his craft. That's why both recordings of this marvelous album are worthy to collect, not only because these musical works are exotic findings, but most first and foremost we have two emblematic figures of the baton through the glorious Fifties -like van Kempen and Karl Böhm - conducting the Berlin Philharmonic in legendary performances from 1951 and 1956 with inimtable style and formidable approach.
This important CD restores to the international catalogues two of the first and most important post-war recordings of Max Reger's orchestral music.
